Nairobi Chess Club now launches new initiatives for chess players;

A panel of chess elders will now host weekly sessions of chess that cover various aspects of the game. This includes review of tactics, review of games played locally and internationally.

This initiative is expected to boost membership numbers and improve the level of play for players of all levels. The group of elders includes Peter Gilruth (one of Kenya's most prolific players), Githinji Hinga (another of Kenya's strongest players and who has represented Kenya at the AAG and the Olympiad) Mehul Gohil (one of strongest players currently and who has represented Kenya on various occasions), Willem Simons (1997 joint Kenya Open winner), Misha Habilov from Baku, Azerbaijan (we think he is related to Gary!!), Warren Pollock from Canada.

This is expected to have a big impact of players who have taken up the game and those who want to improve their standards.

A number of junior chess players are expected to take part in this novel idea from the Oldest Chess Club in Kenya!

Start time is 2.30pm and expected to run for about 75 minutes.

Daily membership will now be available at KShs 50 per afternoon.

The precursors of chess originated in India during the Gupta Empire,[2][3][4][5] where its early form in the 6th century was known as chaturaṅga, which translates as "four divisions (of the military)": infantry, cavalry, elephantry, and chariotry, represented by the pieces that would evolve into the modern pawn, knight, bishop, and rook, respectively.[6]
Chess was introduced to Persia from India and became a part of the princely or courtly education of Persian nobility.[7] In Sassanid Persia around 600 the name became chatrang, which subsequently evolved to shatranj, due to Arab Muslim’s lack of ch and ng native sounds,[8] and the rules were developed further. Players started calling "Shāh!" (Persian for "King!") when attacking the opponent's king, and "Shāh Māt!" (Persian for "the king is helpless" – see checkmate) when the king was attacked and could not escape from attack. These exclamations persisted in chess as it traveled to other lands.
The game was taken up by the Muslim world after the Islamic conquest of Persia, with the pieces largely keeping their Persian names. The Moors of North Africa rendered Persian "shatranj" as shaṭerej, which gave rise to the Spanish acedrex, axedrez and ajedrez; in Portuguese it became xadrez, and in Greek zatrikion, but in the rest of Europe it was replaced by versions of the Persian shāh ("king"). Thus, the game came to be called ludus scacchorum or scacc(h)i in Latin, scacchi in Italian, escacs in Catalan, échecs in French (Old French eschecs); schaken in Dutch, Schach in German, szachy in Polish, šahs in Latvian, skak in Danish, sjakk in Norwegian, schack in Swedish, šakki in Finnish, šah in South Slavic languages, sakk in Hungarian and şah in Romanian; there are two theories about why this change happened:
From the exclamation "check" or "checkmate" as it was pronounced in various languages.
From the first chessmen known of in Western Europe (except Iberia and Greece) being ornamental chess kings brought in as curios by Muslim traders.
The Mongols call the game shatar, and in Ethiopia it is called senterej, both evidently derived from shatranj.
Chess spread directly from the Middle East to Russia, where chess became known as шахматы (shakhmaty, treated as a plural).
The game reached Western Europe and Russia by at least three routes, the earliest being in the 9th century. By the year 1000 it had spread throughout Europe.[9] Introduced into the Iberian Peninsula by the Moors in the 10th century, it was described in a famous 13th century manuscript covering shatranj, backgammon and dice named the Libro de los juegos.
Chess spread throughout the world and many variants of the game soon began taking shape.[10] Buddhist pilgrims, Silk Road traders and others carried it to the Far East where it was transformed and assimilated into a game often played on the intersection of the lines of the board rather than within the squares.[10][11] Chaturanga reached Europe through Persia, the Byzantine empire and the expanding Arabian empire.[12] Muslims carried chess to North Africa, Sicily, and Iberia by the 10th century.[10]
The game was developed extensively in Europe, and by the late 15th century, it had survived a series of prohibitions and Christian Church sanctions to almost take the shape of the modern game.[13] Modern history saw reliable reference works,[14] competitive chess tournaments[15] and exciting new variants which added to the game's popularity,[15] further bolstered by reliable timing mechanisms (first introduced in 1861), effective rules[15] and charismatic players.[16]

ORIGINAL POST: JLISSOW 03/30/13
everyone on my friends list knows I'm not a prepper, theorist, conspiracy blogger, or a Intel analyst but 2 things I am is a veteran and really good at chess.
as I read through news clips, reports from post I start to see the chess board. on white side we have the citizens on the black we have the Marxist / Nazi, Tyrannical dictatorship disguised as a capitalist government.

Before we get into the board game lets go over the pieces white king is the constitution, queen is militia / citizen, bishops is state government officials / lobbyist, knights are veterans / oath keepers / pro constitution sheriffs- law enforcement, rooks are the veto rights of local government, pawns are citizens rights / freedoms and methods of recording incidents with tyrannical government.
on the black side king is the dictator disguised as legitimate government elected official, queen is personal security teams, bishops are anti constitution lobbyists / government officials, knights are gov programs (i.e. DHS, FEMA), rooks are the presidential executive order, pawns are the military / DOD.

now black side will move around a few pawns and even sacrifice them to get the bigger objectives out their (as we've seen attempts to cut T.A. , Medical Care for vets and currently serving, and making military cut back on already bare funding) and they will use the bishops to cover what the true plan really is.
on white side we will block as much as possible with pawns and get as much truth uncovered as possible and our own bishops hold the black side in check.
once the black decides that's not working the black king dispatches rooks to get around the bishops and try to do a direct attack only to be matched by states and local governments veto rights being used by the white rooks.
now thinking good and hard on the next move the black king will decide to use the last and only piece that can attempt a direct attack by moving forward and to the side of both opponents and brings out the knights and uses his federally funded programs (FEMA / DHS) to control the citizens and the white block yet again with our own knights and before you know it the only choice is a direct contact war with each side having the queen protect the king. now who will win this and create the checkmate after the bloodshed is started. once the black side has seen that legitimate legislation is no longer effective they will not use legitimate sources to achieve their end goal.

just read this and think long and hard about the message trying to be conveyed.
