Magnus Carlsen has won the Candidates tournament 2013 and will be the official challenger of "reigning" World Champion V Anando. The World Chess Championship 2013 is scheduled for November this year. Magnus Carlsen won the Candidates after a few dramatic last days. He lost the lead against Ivanchuk, but managed to catch up with Kramnik after a supershow against Radjabov. In the last round Carlsen lost to Svidler, but so did Kramnik to Ivanchuk. Carlsen and Kramnik finished with equal points, but Carlsen was declared winner on tiebreak – more wins.

Congratulations to the Maggie Walker chess club for their first place finish this past weekend in the Virginia High School Chess League State championships. Team members Isaac Steincamp, Zach Allen, David Clayton, Dylan Vrana and Richard Li defeated Loudon Valley High School in the final match giving Maggie Walker High School yearlong possession of the coveted Hopkins State Championship Cup.

There will be a budget overview session for interested students in the Auditorium during lunch on Friday, 29 March hosted by Mr. McGee and Mr. Tharp.

Congratulations to the Maggie Walker Forensics Team for 2 State Finalists in the VHSL State Forensics Championship on Saturday, March 23rd at Harrisonburg H.S. Kudos to Christopher Benos who placed 5th in the state in Extemporaneous Speaking and Elizabeth Ratliff who placed 6th in the state in Serious Dramatic Interpretation. Go Dragons – you make us proud.
