I have never stopped learning new works for my repertoire. Am currently having fun with the very complex and intricate Rachmaninoff Sonata No.2 in B Flat minor, which is already almost all memorized---which I started learning less than six weeks ago while also working on a couple of other things (I only practice one to two hours most days and hardly at all while on tour). This work will be included in some of my recitals later in the year.

I saw a film in high school wherein a man wore a special head covering with lenses that turned everything upside down. It was a psychology class film, not a comedy. In time, his eyes got used to seeing things upside down and his brain turned what he saw through those lenses right-side up. Then, when the covering and lenses were removed, his ordinary eyes saw things upside down!
Is our world and particularly our society seeing things upside down? I swear, half of us see things upside down and the other half is just the opposite! We accept things that have always been wrong and we eschew things that have always been right.
I would hope that we do not toss out wisdom and replace it with the same foolishness that has destroyed all of the great "civilizations" of the past. Statistically, families are in a steep decline. Liberty is regarded as tyranny and that which has always been out of bounds is the new normal. Self-reliance is now regarded as selfishness, common decency is replaced with vitriol and vile name-calling. Our civility has turned upside down. The FCC is now considering allowing brief nudity and dropping standards of speech for national broadcasts. Really? What is the purpose of this loosening of standards except to turn children away from standards that were once held high? Are we wearing upside-down goggles or what?
Thankfully, there are many good and decent people in this nation. They may be the only reason that God has not withdrawn his love and support. I hope he does not lose patience and gives us time to correct the course! But if he does, will we do it? Will you try?
