dawn of war

If I had a dollar for every time I heard the quote "do not judge lest you be judged", then I would be a rich man many times over. That quote is taken from Matthew 7:1. It is often used to attack Christians who take absolute stands on moral issues. The verse is so often taken as you should never judge another persons actions or beliefs which is completely not the meaning if you read the verses that follow Matthew 7:1. But for a moment I will grant the erroneous understanding of the verse and not judge anyone, but will only share what Jesus had to say about judging when He spoke to Nicodemus. These verses on judging come right after the most famous verse in the Bible - John 3:16 "For God so loved the world, that He gave His only begotten Son, that whoever believes in Him should not perish but have eternal life." Great news, right?! But Jesus continues with the message, "For God did not send the Son into the world to judge the world, but that the world should be saved through Him." Great news, again?! Jesus didn't even judge when He came. But there is more to the message, "He who believes in Him (Jesus) is not judged; HE WHO DOES NOT BELIEVE HAS BEEN JUDGED ALREADY, BECAUSE HE HAS NOT BELIEVED IN THE NAME OF THE ONLY BEGOTTEN SON OF GOD." Now you see a line drawn between those who believe and those who do not believe in the name of the Son of God. Is Jesus distinguishing between two groups of people? One group is right and the other group wrong? Of course He is! And this is what He says about those who do not believe in Him, "And this is the judgment, that the light is come into the world, and men loved the darkness rather than the light; for their deeds were evil. For everyone who does evil hates the light, and does not come to the light, lest his deeds should be exposed." Woah! Jesus says those who do not believe in Him love the darkness and their deeds are evil!

Be careful of quoting Matthew 7:1 without understanding John 3:17-20. Because if you are an unbeliever, there is no reason for me to judge as you have been judged already!

During the 1920s ANZAC Day became established as a national day of commemoration for the 60,000 Australians who had died during the war. In 1927, for the first time every state observed some form of public holiday on ANZAC Day. By the mid-1930s, all the rituals we now associate with the day – dawn vigils, marches, memorial services, reunions, two-up games – were firmly established as part of ANZAC Day culture.

With the coming of the Second World War, ANZAC Day also served to commemorate the lives of Australians who died in that war. In subsequent years the meaning of the day has been further broadened to include Australians killed in all the military operations in which Australia has been involved.

Fortunately history will judge Margaret Thatcher on her achievements. People hear how Henry Kissinger recalls her today. To the total nobodies wittering away about Thatcher in Facebook - what are you doing with your life? Thatcher will be remembered for centuries - you are known by no-one and will be forgotten in about a fortnight.

So we've seen a lot of very strong feelings, including my own, on here today. I'm sure some friendships have been damaged, some re-affirmed. Without going into the Margaret Thatcher thing, do you think that maybe such things should not be bought up on here, in the same was as people used to say never discuss religion or politics ? If we were all out together one night, would the same things have been said as what has been said on here ? Do you think that people's "statuses" are there to be commented upon with your own thoughts, or should they be more of statements ? I have some very strong feelings on subjects that I know would cause a war on here, but usually choose to keep quiet. What do you think ?
