Ok, I'll just make a quick statement.

Marriage was instituted by God and is ordained by Him through the church today. Marriage predates our nation by over a millenia. Our founders had no need to be remarried after 1776 to achieve any specific or special government sanction for their union.

TBD and I were joined together in holy matrimony in the eyes of the Lord by our Pastor Roger Faulkner. The piece of paper we received from the state of Missouri means little to us. It could say civil union, spousal contract or whatever - it didn't affect our marriage. It just granted certain legal rights to us as a couple.

At the end of the day, here is what must be remembered. The state doesn't ordain marriage - never has and never will. So, whether the status quo is maintained or we become like Canada, where 1/3 of 1% of all marriages are to same sex couples, the actual institution of marriage will remain unchanged.

For those who seek change, this is a legal fight, not a religious fight. The state can deem equal legal rights to SSM, but only God can truly sanction a marriage. Regardless of what happens in Washington, it will not change God. In short, this is simply a fight about what legal rights a government issued piece of paper will confer onto two contracted individuals. Sounds romantic, right? But seriously, if you really want a marriage, talk to God and not a bureaucratic government clerk.

Not that the other side has it all going on either. As a people we have done enough harm to our society over the past 60 years by cheapening the term marriage to the point that over 50% of "til death do us part" unions end prematurely for little to no reason and many now see it as an unnecessary & cumbersome artifact. So today we fight to preserve what is the ideal, the true institution as setup by God, but unless we can overcome our current deficiencies, we truly fight in vain.

So my answer is simply this. Let the state issue the proper paperwork that allow equal rights, but stopping short of ordaining SSM. This fixes the legal issue which is the province of the state, while allowing the church to define marriage for her adherents, which is the rightful province of the church. To do otherwise would open a route for the state to begin governing the private practices of the church.

For all my friends, gay and straight, believers and non-believers, Dems and Repubs, this is just one man's humble opinion. I still love and respect those who disagree with me and I hope with all my heart that such sentiments will be reciprocated. In the end, I do my best to lean not on my own understanding, but on the Word of God.

The Sunken Hull of this once mighty battleship is now a monument. A few bits of it are near the waterline, all rusting metal and twisted steel. Attached to the deck is the flagpole that never lowered her banner to the enemy. Below the waterline, the hull still holds the mortal remains of the crew. The USS Arizona has been a tomb since the morning of December 7, 1941, when she was hit by a Japanese bomb. The hull still leaks oil from her bunkers even after all these decades. It is as if the ship is still bleeding her life fluids. The many who visit the modernistic memorial built on pillars astride the broken hull are silent for the most part, respectful of this place. More than a few feel that the place is haunted. The story of the ghost is a U.S. Navy yarn told by a chief petty officer. It has its roots in World War II. Then, as now, the warships entering and leaving Pearl Harbor pause and salute the sunken battleship. Some say the ship was cursed from the start. When she was launched, a bottle of water was used to christen her rather than wine or spirits. It was a politically correct move at the time, but old salt-water sailors knew that nothing good could come from not following the traditions of the sea.
The story goes that on the mourning of the attack, the officer of the deck wasn't at his post. He was distracted, and for personal reasons left his station for a few moments. It was in his absence that the Japanese plans made their surprise sortie. The officer died in the blast that killed the ship and sent her to the shallow bottom of the harbor. The unfortunate guilt-ridden man now haunts the ship ,walking the deck at low tide and looking out near the flagpole. He haunts the wreck at night and is seen in the dim light of dawn. They say that when you take pictures at the monmument, many times odd things happen on film: Orbs and foggy spots appear, and every once in a while a misty shadow is seen lurking in the background of the photograph.
