Preparation
First we need to believe that people are made of clay and can be molded into our
projected images of how people "should" be. We project what we know.
Then we need to get us a baby and believe that it's just a lump of clay that can
be molded into our image of how it needs to be.
Making the Dish
This is the creative part of the recipe, but the one thing we need to do is to
show the baby that the more it demands our love and contact, the more we need to
educate it that it needs to be okay with the terror and isolation of its own
room. This is a crucial step. In effect, we need to introduce to the new born a
good dollop of existential angst and hopelessness. If we don't do this, we won't
be able to mold it into its proper shape and form.
Sure babies need love, but you don't want to over-do it. Babies also need to
learn to be neglected and if they howl with fear and discontent, we need to
stand strong and ignore their screams. If we don't do that the child will learn
that he can manipulate us with his cries and we would never want to give the
child the idea that he has power over us.
The child must learn to be powerless. When he does that, we will be able to love
him more and we will love him for his engaging helplessness.
Then we tell the baby what he can and cannot do. But what he must do most is
please us. If he pleases us, then we will be happy with him and we will love him
even more than we do. On the other hand, if he doesn't please us, then we will
need to punish him. We need to punish him until he learns that he must please
us. Then we will love him even more.
So, we make our little zombie fool with countless lessons involving gold stars,
harsh looks, slaps, spankings, intentional indifference, pleasurable accolades
and all the rest.
Love is not free. Oh no. Love must be earned by "good" behavior. What a nice
little girl.
Over time, the child is fully disconnected from his authentic self. He has
become a confused Pleaser. He becomes a reward chaser. That will become the
underlying theme for his whole life. Wives will be loved when they please me and
husbands will be loved when they tell me how wonderful I am.
And when things don't quite work out, he becomes pissed off and he adopts his
rebel role. He will stop pleasing and we will start to hate him and maybe even
fear him. One day he will land himself in in the joint, if he isn't "careful".
It's all about winning and losing. It all becomes about me. How am I doing?, I
might ask in a frightened or angry voice.
The world "out there" becomes the field of dreams and nightmares where the
serious game of winning and losing gets played out.
Like cartilage, the substance that keeps the whole thing together is the energy
of insecurity struggling to become secure.
Then the person dies.
Our Final Product
The Zombie Fool is a creation, an artifact of parental belief that he was not
"just right and perfect" right from the get go. The nutrition of fear is what
keeps the game in constant motion. It's a game of pleasing others and being
pleased with one's self. It's always "me" AND the world. They are always
separate and usually adversarial. It is a tense, painful game.
