Gun purchases will be more expensive in Cook County, starting tomorrow. The county will start charging an extra $25 tax on each gun purchased, beginning Monday. County Board President Toni Preckwinkle says the tax will help pay for the costs of gun violence.

Do you think the tax is a good idea?

Guding you through this afternoons football action which could potentially see Celtic winning the SPL and Morton clawing some points back on Thistle in the 1st Division race. Plus we'll let keep you up to date on the Grand National! Which horse is your money on?

I want to thank Governor Martin O'Malley and the Maryland state legislature for passing a progressive gas tax hike today. Seriously...thank you guys! I always felt Maryland taxes were too low. And, gas prices have been extremely affordable. Higher taxes will make it easier to pay for my soon to skyrocket health insurance premiums under Obamacare. So, again, thank you.
* Seriously...considering moving our family to an adjacent state that is more family and business friendly.

From Christine Kabera: "I want a fully equipped ambulance and a CT scan. Where do I send the request? And ... at least 15 more nurses, 10 more doctors, budget to train those awaiting to specialise so that my hospital can finally get a general surgeon and a paediatrician. FYI , the entire Coast Province has no neurosurgeon in any public hospital. Uhuruto, get your running shoes on and hit the ground running. The situation is dire on the ground!"

HOW TO REMAIN POOR:

1. Never wake up early. Keep stretching and turning in bed until you get too hungry to continue dozing. If there are no bed bugs,
why hurry to get up?

2. Never plan how to spend your money. Whenever you get money, start spending it right away and when it's finished, you try to count and recall how you spent it.

3. Don't think of saving until you have real big money. How can you save when you earn so little? Those telling you to save are not sympathetic to your burning needs.

4. Don't engage in activities usually reserved for the "uneducated".
How can you, a graduate, engage in petty trade or home-based production? That's for people who never went to school.

5. Don't think of starting a business until an angel comes from heaven and give you capital. How do they expect you to invest before you get millions of dollars? Even though more than half the
businesses in your town were started with a few hundred dollar, you as a smart person can only start with millions.

6. Complain about everything expect your own attitude. Blame the system, the government and the banks that refuse to lend you money. They are all bad and do not want you to get rich.

7. Spend more than you earn. To achieve this, buy consumer product on credit and keep borrowing from friends and employers.

8. Compete in dressing. Make sure you're wearing the latest clothes. Whenever your neighbour buys a new phone, you get one that is more expensive.
9. Get yourself a nice second hand car that costs more than three times your gross monthly pay.

10. Give your children everything they ask for since you're such a loving parent. They should not struggle for anything because you do not want them to suffer. That way, they will grow up lazy hence poor enough to ensure they can't help you in old age.

FOOD FOR THOUGHT!

Good morning!

Donna Peach died today. You won't have heard of her - she was a blogger who wrote about her experience with Stage 4, metastatic breast cancer. Another blogger I follow knows that she is down to mere months now. Her goal is to live long enough to see her son graduate from high school. Odds are slim she will see him off to college in the fall. Every couple of months now it seems another blogger I follow dies of this insidious disease. A disease for which there is no cure. My reality is that while I may not die from MBC, I will die with it. So, here's the thing: I am going to walk in the Komen Walk for the Cure on May 4th. And I am going to represent those who are living with metastatic breast cancer and those who have died from it. Walking for those for whom there is no cure. Would you like to join me?

Marriage equality is a complex issue with strong feelings on both sides, and I have a great deal of respect for varying opinions on the issue. After much thought and prayer, I have come to my own personal conclusion that we shouldn’t tell people who they can love or who they can marry.

This wasn’t a decision I came to overnight, like my Republican colleague Rob Portman expressed recently on his own viewpoint. Last year, I opposed Amendment One because I was concerned about the negative consequences it could have on North Carolina families and our economy. The fabric of North Carolina and what makes our state so special is our families and our common desire for a brighter future for our children. No matter what your family looks like, we all want the same thing for our families – happiness, health, prosperity, a bright future for our children and grandchildren.

Religious institutions should have religious freedom on this issue. No church or minister should ever have to conduct a marriage that is inconsistent with their religious beliefs. But I think as a civil institution, this issue’s time has come and we need to move forward. Jobs and the economy are the number one issue for me and for North Carolinians right now, and I’m not going to take my eye off that ball at a time when so many are still struggling.
