HOCKEY: Goaltender Nathan Bowness made 30 saves to backstop the host Upper Canada Cyclones to their first win of the Ontario Hockey Federation Midget AAA championship tournament on Monday, a 4-0 victory over the winless London Jr. Knights at the Brockville Memorial Centre.

After a scoreless first period, the Cyclones chalked up three goals in the second period to pull away from the Knights. Nick Coates, Jared Henry and Michael Murray did the scoring. Another goal by Coates in the third, giving him his third point of the game, completed the scoring.

The win left the Cyclones with a 1-2 record after three preliminary round-robin games in the six-team tournament. Upper Canada meets the Vaughan Kings at 4:30 p.m. Tuesday and the Ottawa Jr. 67's on Wednesday at 7:30 p.m. to complete preliminary action. The Cyclones opened the tournament with a 5-1 loss to the Sault Ste. Marie North Stars on Saturday, followed by a 6-2 loss to the Whitby Wildcats on Sunday.

Whitby leads the way with a 3-0 record, followed by Ottawa (2-0-1), Sault Ste. Marie (1-1-1), Upper Canada (1-2), Vaughan (1-2) and London (0-3).

The top four teams make Thursday's semifinals, with semifinal winners advancing to the gold medal final at 1 p.m. on Friday. Semifinal losers play for bronze at 9:30 a.m. Friday.

How do you feel about letting your LO watch tv? I am not as strict as I was, but I only allow a few PBS shows; Super Why, Word world and then my LO discovered Doc Mcstuffins, Sofia the first and Jake and the never land pirates on Disney jr. But they only get to watch two of those a day. -Amelia ⚓⚓

Here are the results for the State Juniors Rball Tournament. Congrats to all of you that played!--Nate

Chynoweth takes two titles at state junior racquetball tourney
Cottage Grove’s Reece Chynoweth won a pair of titles in the youngest age groups at the 2013 Wisconsin State Junior Racquetball Championships, held at the Prairie Athletic Club (PAC) and sponsored by Maly Tile of Sun Prairie.
Chynoweth won the 8U 2-bounce and 3-bounce divisions, rolling through the competition without losing a game.
Carlos Reyes, an exchange student from Bolivia living in Janesville, steamrolled the competition in the 16U division. Reyes didn’t give up double-digit points in any of his games, dominating the five-player round-robin.
The biggest and most competitive draw of the tourney was the 14U, which feature nine players. Oregon’s Ian Schultz had to win three tough matches over Chandler Spiewak, Michael Fredenberg and Karl Zeeb Jr. to take the title.
Fredenberg won the 14U title in 2012, while Zeeb won the consolation bracket. Steele Beatty, who took the 12U crown in 2012, won consolation this year after losing an 11-9 tie-breaker to Ben Travis in the opening round.
Madison’s Andrew Rajkovich won a state title for the second straight year, edging Pewaukee’s Masen Beatty in a tie-breaker to win the 12U. Rajkovich won the 10U title in 2012.
Sun Prairie’s Luke Thompson outlasted Sun Prairie’s Caden Krueger in an 11-9 tie-breaker for the 10U crown. It was a reversal from 2012 when Krueger edged Thompson for the 8U crown.
Madison’s Will Speich rolled through the 11U 2-bounce competition, giving up six or fewer total points in all four of his matches. Madison’s Lev Kerlow was barely scored upon until running into Speich in the last match.
Josh Bajkiewicz and Nick Kleiber, both of Sun Prairie, surprised Rajkovich and Travis for the 18U doubles title, while Masen Beatty and Will Maastricht won the head-to-head tiebreaker to win the high/low doubles crown over Tyler Chynoweth and Chandler Spiewak.
It was a great weekend for the host club as six of the nine division state champs and five runners-up hailed from the PAC.
A total of 34 players from around the state played in the tournament, which feature nine divisions. Results of the tournament are listed below.
