18 beauties vie for Miss Global International Malaysia title

MIRI: Eighteen finalists will vie for the Miss Global International Malaysia (MGIM) 2013 to be held at Eastwood Valley Golf and Country Club on July 27.

Organising chairperson Marlene Lim said the finalists, aged 18 to 27, come from Limbang, Miri, Kuching, Kuala Lumpur, Selangor, Kota Kinabalu, Johor, Penang and Melaka.

A stewardess, Julies Lucas, 26, is the only contestant to represent Miri for the beauty pageant which entered its third year running this year.

Another two from Sarawak are Livonia Guing, 22, from Kuching and Valenice Tiong Sie Yiin, 25, from Limbang.

“MGIM is the only national pageant in East Malaysia and it is an honour for Miri to host the event since 2011.”

With this year’s slogan ‘Celebrating Beauty Inside & Out’, the event aims to promote tourism in Miri and train potential beauty queens to be ambassadors for the city and Malaysia.

Lim said the finalists will participate in the pageant for a week and the winner get to represent Malaysia at world level in Albania in November.

“Environmental preservation and awareness activities are incorporated into the 10-day event to promote Miri as a Green City. There will be plenty of exciting charitable activities,” she revealed.

Part of the proceeds raised from the pageant will be donated to Miri Autistic Association, Zero Strays Miri and Miri General Hospital.

She called on the public to support the event by purchasing tickets for the grant final.

Tickets are selling at RM200, RM500 and RM1,000 per pax.
