Margaret Thatcher
Rest in peace lady
The name always fills my mind with a headline of 80s
"Empire hits back"
Oh the way u handled Falkland wars, most deservingly bestowed upon u the title 'Iron Lady'
Being a contemptory to Indiraji there is a lot that these 2 share
Both being called Iron Lady
Margaret for Falkland wars n Indiraji for Bangladesh
Both were hated for supressing biggest movements of that time in their respective countries
Margaret for union trade movement n Indiraji for Khalistan movement
Both of them premiered 2 major countries for a noticable long time in 2 most vibrant democracies
Only difference being that Margaret could die peacefully n Indiraji was assasinated brutally(what a reward to keep a nation intact)
Running the queen's empire n commonwealth most successfully indeed made her a demi queen
A great loss to the world
You will be remembered in world politics Margaret Thatcher!!

Margaret Thatcher was a great politician who did more than most to make modern Britain warts and all. The majority of people during her time in office prospered, my family was one. My father was a self employed builder in the North of England and his business boomed during the 80's. Those who prospered made more money, could buy their own council house and had a standard of living that would have seemed a pipe dream during the high inflation 70's where the UK was regarded as the "Sick man of Europe".

Those who didn't prosper however saw their way of life decimated. The old heavy industries of mining, steel and ship building were denied the Government subsidies that they need to compete in a global market place and when the unions went out on strike to bring down Thatcher they were crushed, taking their jobs with them. Whole communities were condemned to a spiral of deprevation that hasn't ended nearly 30 years later.

Make no mistake though the unions needed to be broken. They were a millstone around the neck of the economy with closed shop, open ballots and flying pickets used as tactics by a hard left leadership to blackmail companies into giving their members extravagant pay rises and generous conditions. That stranglehold was not only undemocratic it was stifling the whole nation.

Internationally her legacy is probably even greater, with Reagan, Walesa and John Paul II she was one of the major poilitical forces that brought down the Warsaw Pact and communism. Her defence of the Falkland Island from the Argentinian junta restored Britain's pride in itself, military and increased its standing in the world that had been waning since the Suez crisis. Her strident anti european rhetoric and its mark on the British psyche is probably a major reason why the UK isn't in the Euro, but her devotion to the rights of seperate nations in the EU is also perhaps partly why the current crisis is taking so long to resolve.

Thatcher was lucky with her enemies, Heath, Foot, Galtieri and Scargill are not from the top draw of political opperators and I wonder if the Labour party had chosen the bruising Dennis Healey to be its leader in 1980 whether the political scene would have changed.

She made mistakes, the "Poll Tax" which was an attempt to make the property tax system in the UK fairer, was unpopular and punished those in work. She lacked magnanimity at times and needlessly treated both friend and foe callously when their perceived usefulness was done. In the end that cost her. Convinced that she was now a liability the Conservative party got rid of her.

Her legacy is undoubtedly vast. She was the first female leader of a major nation and a successful one too. Her politics shunted the British public to the right and forced the Labour party to move in that direction. Socially she left the UK on the whole richer but also more divided with the majority benefiting but created a larger underclass. Internationally she was a towering figure and is one of the defining political figures of the 20th century

Love her or loathe her (and there are plenty of both) she made a difference.

RIP Margaret Hilda Thatcher

Radio personality Ciku Muiruri has taken to Facebook to explain the circumstances in which she was recorded at a party with the notorious Artur brothers.

The clip which aired on Jicho Pevu showed Ciku and one of the Artur brothers having a “moment” at a social gathering. The Jicho Pevu crew were investigating the circumstances in which Professor George Saitoti died.

Here is what she wrote:

“Yes, that was me with Atur!!!!! That’s an old story, LOL! But for those of you seeing it for the first time, it was shot at a bash that the Atur brothers threw for the media back in the day when their activities in Kenya were still a mystery. I was then the Editor of Pulse magazine of the Standard newspaper. Aware that I was attending said bash, was my boss, the then Managing Editor of the Standard, Pamela Makotsi. I was of the opinion, when it came to the Aturs, that you catch more flies with honey than vinegar and she acquiesced. We were both vindicated, albeit I was in a different media house by then, when I eventually landed the interview of decade. More on that in a bit. Back to the bash where, standing next to me and cut out of the shot, I’m sure on purpose (Perhaps for drama? tut tut) was Eve D’Souza and Sheila Mwanyigha. Also at the bash was the then Buzz (Sunday Nation) Editor, Adhiambo Odera. Pinky Ghelani was also there and numerous others. Atur lifted me onto a counter to make space for all of us to take a picture. I don’t see the relevance of putting that particular clip (of me only) in today’s program unless Mohammed Ali was upset that I refused to give him Winnie Mwai’s number when he called asking for it recently – Dude, you uncover numerous conspiracies and can’t get a simple phone number??? icon smile Busteds Ciku Muiruri statement on her involvement with the Artur brothers .

Curiously, this clip run on NTV, how do KTN have it?

Anyhow, Winnie is my friend, so sorry, I was not sleeping with her boyfriend. You may remember I was and still am, the only journalist who has ever gotten her to agree to an interview. This AFTER the clip ran on NTV. She knew (as did those that were present when he lifted me that day) that it was made to look like something it was not.

The exclusive interview with Winnie (after the brothers were deported) was on the easy fm breakfast show (which I hosted at the time) and was also filmed by NTV, who subsequently played it on the evening news. Funny thing is that this particular interview was also aired by Jicho Pevu a few months ago (No credit was given to easy fm or NTV or to me). Did they buy the footage or how does this work? Perhaps I should investigate Jicho Pevu myself. Mohammed Ali, please investigate this media bash further and get the original raw footage that has ALL the journalists and radio presenters that were in the shot. Half truths should not be allowed on a program that seeks to have a reputation for uncovering the entire truth. And the next time you run an interview that neither you nor your media house did, perhaps you can CREDIT your source? The name is Ciku Muiruri. Thank you, doll.”
