Lately I've been seeing a lot of uneducated, narrow minded viewpoints regarding North Korea and the recent hostilities on the Korean peninsula. Sometimes I wish people would view this situation from a broader, more well informed perspective. It's a fact North Korea does not yet have the capabilities to launch an intercontinental ballistic missile, but it does have the means to launch a missile that can reach Japan, South Korea, and Guam. However the threats made by Kim Jong-un and the regime fall under rhetoric and bellicose talk. They know that if they were to attack South Korean interests or American it would be virtual suicide. The North Korean government knows fully well they yet to have the financial, technological, and logistical means to fight an all out sustained conflict/war. North Korea's intent is partly a show of force which in reverse is causing them further isolation. The regime is upset with stricter and more rigorous sanctions placed on the country. Also on April 15th North Koreans celebrate the birth of eternal president Kim Il-Sung. This year will mark the 101st anniversary of his birth. North Korea usually makes belligerent statements around this time and they dwindle down shortly after. They country could not afford to cause a provocation as well due to China being their main source of income, and agricultural support. Without China, their honestly would be no North Korea. China is calling for calm in the region and fully supports U.S. led sanctions upon the country. A war would also spell thousands of North Korean refugees fleeing from the North across the border into China. Another thing North Korea would lose is production at Kaesong industrial park located right across the border in the North Korean town of Kaesong. This is the last economic tie involving North and South Korean partnership. The shut down of this location would cause North Korea to lose millions of dollars, millions of dollars it's people need to survive. There is much more not outlined, but I think this is the gist of information people need to gain to have more knowledge of the current situation.
