HATTIESBURG, Miss. – Southern Miss senior Dwayne Davis has received a bid to play in the prestigious Portsmouth Invitational, which is set for April 8-10 at Churchland High School in Portsmouth, Va.
In existence since 1953, the Portsmouth Invitational is one of the preeminent NBA pre-draft camps with approximately 200 NBA representatives in attendance. The four-day tournament consists of 12 games with the 64 invited college seniors playing on eight teams of eight players.
Davis will be playing for Mike Duman Auto Sales’ squad in the tournament and will team with Kenny Boynton (Florida), Vincent Council (Providence), Robert Covington (Tennessee State), Richard Howell (North Carolina State), Rodney McGruder (Kansas State), Brock Motum (Washington State) and Aziz N’Diaye (Washington). The team will be coached by Max Gillespie and Jerry Hasty, along with NBA assistant Ruben Patterson.
Davis will begin play in the second game of the tournament on Wednesday, April 10 at 8 p.m. CT against Portsmouth Partnership, which includes Reginald Buckner (Ole Miss) and Larry Drew II (UCLA). The winner of the contest will play in the first semifinal game on Friday, April 12 at 6 p.m., while the loser will play Thursday, April 11 at 2:15 p.m. against the loser of game one. Davis is one of just three players from Conference USA in the Portsmouth Invitational, joining UCF’s Keith Clanton and Maurice Kemp of East Carolina.
Davis led the Golden Eagles with 16.0 points, good for seventh in the league. He was also seventh in three-point field goal percentage (.413), 11th in free throw percentage, connecting on 78.7-percent and 14th in field goal percentage (.489)
The Philadelphia, Pa., native scored in double-figures in 27 games and has led the team in scoring 12 times. He also pulled down 4.5 rebounds per game.
“This is obviously a great opportunity for Dwayne,” said Southern Miss head coach Dwayne Davis. “He has proven himself to be one of the best players in college basketball, and being invited to play in the Portsmouth Invitational is a testament to what he has accomplished this season.”

HPAC for providing rock solid steady fills all weekend. We only heard of one o-ring gone on the air stations which was fixed in seconds. A rightly deserved reputation for providing an excellent service.
The DHD and Wild Geese for their job as the UN forces. They were there to provide much more than a balancing force, they were intended to be very much part of the story line with players having to negotiate safe passage or exchange information as well as gun fight them. The DHD and Wild Geese are hard hitting teams but also intelligently playing teams and played that role to perfection adding another dimension to the game.
Our live targets for the Tippmann Tactical Experience. Volunteering to be shot at from close range the whole weekend. Kudos.
To Martello for the music and PA system, for pyro both in game and making sure there was enough for you crazy lot to flashbang and smoke each other the whole weekend.
Lastly to the guys from BZ and Tippmann Europe for providing all the kit for the Tippmann Tactical Challenge, for tech-ing everyone's markers the whole weekend for free and a range of shiny shiny toys for you to buy.
Hearing your comments about the game play makes this all worth while. It honestly takes months of preparation and hundreds of man days worth of work go in to putting on an event such as this and we appreciate all the responses you have posted so far.
This year we have a question to ask you. The safe area was moved to the FOB this year to provide a larger area for players to stage and camp from that was more sheltered from the elements. We also hoped this would free the middle area of the site up to allow great flow of play in that area and remove any potential bottlenecks. This has the down side of moving the safe area away from the catering van which unfortunately cannot be moved as it is physically plumbed into that location. Was this a real issue for you or would you prefer to see the safe area in its previous location?
