Looking at all 26 countries there were 1107 deaths total over 43 years in kids younger than 15. A staggering 957(86%) of those deaths occurred in the US. Of those, only 22% were accidental. Remember, though, that this is a tally over 43 years. So if you do the math 957 x 22% = 210 accidental deaths in the US over 43 years or roughly 5 accidental deaths per year in the U.S. from a firearm. There are an estimated 44 million households in the U.S. with firearms, and thus letting your child play at little Timmy’s house gives him about a 1 in ten million chance of dying there from an accidental gunshot wound (roughly the same risk as being struck by lightning). This is undeniably tragic for those 5 kids and their families each year , but not quite the public health epidemic you might think.
Our legislators vow to protect our children from the horrible accidents caused by guns, but we have a much bigger threat looming. In 2001-2002 a staggering 775 children were killed by Dihydrogen monoxide. This overused chemical is an additive in most of our food. It comes right from the tap, yet legislation is barely doing anything to touch on that. Dihydrogen monoxide kills more people each year in the United States than drunk drivers. Yet no bills have been offered to prevent these accidental deaths.
You should have your house tested, but you really can’t avoid it. It is even in the air, and in greater concentrations near rivers, lakes, and places of high humidity. Colorado is not immune, but we are a bit safer than the rest of the nation when it comes to Dihydrogen monoxide.
So as the President and his minions roll through Colorado, bragging about what they have done to the Constitutions of the State and the United States, I ask one brave soul to ask any of them what they plan to do about Dihydrogen monoxide. It is readily available from your tap. It surrounds you. It is shipped blatantly on public roads in huge amounts. Odds are you have had great exposure today. 775 deaths in children alone (persons under the age of 15) which is way more than the combined deaths in all the spree killings in the last decade.
Dihydrogen monoxide, google it, and you will see the abundance of this chemical agent. Yet nothing, not one word from our legislators. I implore them to offer some sort of protection, instead of wasting my time with unenforceable laws. Grand standing is the only purpose that these affronts to your liberty serve.
Dihydrogen monoxide a much greater threat than guns, so I ask why the attempt to trample our rights further? What purpose does it serve? Follow the money. That is all I can offer. Look at the people putting the laws up (privileged persons, and criminals). Puppets are pulling our strings, and we thank them for it, because they are doing it under the guise of keeping our children safe.
