When we were kids, video games didn’t exist and we played outside almost every day, enjoying the sunshine and neighborhood friends. One of the games we played was “Red Light-Green Light.” When the leader said “Green Light,” players could move forward and get as close as possible to the finish line. But if the leader said “Red Light” players must stop – if they moved after that command, they were out of the game.
God provides red lights and green lights throughout His Word along with the guidance of the Holy Spirit who faithfully tells us when to go and when to stop. God made is rather simple: Deuteronomy 30:19 “I have set before you life and death, blessings and curses. Now choose life, so that you and your children may live.”
If we want to live an abundant life of joy, peace and prosperity in every arena, God has given us the instruction manual (the Bible) that – if applied and followed - produces that kind of life. But we must CHOOSE – It’s up to us to choose life by choosing God’s ways. We will walk in the blessing – or curses – of our choices.
Like Tom witnessed cars blasting through the stop sign, people often blast through the red lights God has put before us, then wonder why they crash and burn. Through God’s love, He established boundaries for us and if we stay within those boundaries (which produce abundant life) we will experience His best – but if we ignore those boundaries, we’re sure to face a collision where we suffer serious injury. Today, choose God’s way – choose life – it’s a green light!

Monday Morning Mailbag: "I have an 11 year old son who has started becoming very depressed. He has been getting bullied at school to the point of many trips to the emergency room. He was put on Zoloft 2 months ago. Saturday he came to me and told me he was thinking about taking his carving knife and cutting his own throat. I am completely freaked out. I have taken all sharp objects away from him, I have him on constant surveillance, and I am calling his doctor as soon as they open. Some people are telling me I am taking this too far, but I don't think you can ever be too careful or that something like this should be taken lightly. I know this could potentially hurt him later on, but I need to make sure there is a later on. What else can I do? Am I doing everything I can? Thank you.

Had a dream I was 15 again, back at Ms Kathy's petting peebo and watching Brian chat on AOL instant messenger.. It felt so real.. Howard was sitting in the kitchen looking thru the bar window, Ryan was playing video games on the floor, Allen was in the recliner talking on the house phone to some girl. At one point I walked back to his room to check on the classroom animal of his sisters that she brought home for the summer. He kept it on his bookshelf headboard. I can still remember exactly how his room looked and how the house was set up. His class ring was still on the microwave where it stayed before i had it. Everything was sooo real. I'd do anything to have you back buddy. There's so many conversations we still needed to finish, two birthday dinners we owed each other and so many more memories I looked forward to making with you. The last time I saw you was two weeks before you left us, we were at Mish playing darts.. You could never beat me!! :) I can still hear the joke you told me during our game.. I gave you hell for it for a week! Now I'm sitting here replaying all our memories in my head.. You test driving all my cars, especially the Volvo and its turbo engine! Haha we got up to 60 going down Nashville avenue until u hit that speed bump and I thought we were going to total my grandmas new car! You loved just driving my new truck around the block or to the store and ill never forget the day my alarm went of on the Honda for like 30 mins before you came outside, hit the unlock button and it went off. It was hysterical how u let me drive around the neighborhood first with the alarm going crazy before you came out to help. All u did was walk outside, hit the button, laugh and say "you're welcome idiot" and walk back inside ... Little things like that just made me adore our friendship. You were your own person, unlike anyone I had ever met. Ill never forget the night you woke us up tapping on our window and writing me messages in the dew... Or the day you ran in my room and stole some of my clothes, the nights at heathers, or pine forest football games.. I could go on forever. We had so much fun as kids, even more fun as adults. You were very important to me and no one but us will ever understand. I love you Brian Steinbeck! I miss you more everyday. Watch over us buddy!
