I couldn't wrap my head around downsampling/upsampling for the longest time until now.. Downsampling GI calculation by a factor of 1/4 brought total fps from ~20 to ~105. Since GI is a low-frequency effect, bilateral upsampling will be completely sufficient to hide the low resolution computation. Exciting!

Minecraft server maintenance:

I noticed for a few days now that my communities steam boilers (4 in total) were well past straining our biofuel production, and without my knowledge before it became a problem, I was tasked to try and build another tree farm for more biomass production, didn't know until it was too late, boilers ran out of fuel, got cold, stopped producing power.

I come on today to find about 90% of our machines not working, I check and to no surprise, boilers are dead, all 36 steam engines dead, had a little bit of power in our energy cell bank but was not wired with an output, modified our power lines to remedy that, did that to jump start fuel production once more, tree carts running full bore sending me saplings to turn into fuel (fun part: I require energy to turn saplings into usable fuel), the fuel consumption was too high for what I was producing, then noticed the full creosote tank, connected that to warm up the boilers until I ran out of that fuel and had accumulated enough biofuel to gradually bring up the temperatures and some steam.

18 engines began working, sending precious power to the cell bank, our workshop, and began the cycle of self sustaining, waited an hour and tried to run our second boiler, burned through all the fuel again and disconnected it afterwards, there was no second chance of restarting the entire system with what I have, as I waited, I have installed an alarm system that the entire compound could hear, if the boilers are cold then it triggers, but that's not all I had planned you see, we never thought this issue would come to light, I looked at our stock of unused engines and found 6 biogass engines (runs on multiple fuel sources, always requires lava to heat up), I had sat this up to a single energy cell, out of the 5 that we have, so we could provide the energy required to create fuel for a boiler if the issue ever arises once more, even took a computer and monitor and created a scrolling text script for instructions on how to restart a single boiler if all 4 are down and highlighted the energy cell that the backup engines are connected to, since those engines require lava and lava conversion requires energy, I have left a chest of supplies in the same room as well.

4-5 hours of fixing our energy crisis and got up to two boilers running and being self sustained, all 36 engines running as normal, power cells are full, the final two boilers that will have to wait are the boilers that run a total of 4 turbines and a furnace, turbines are used to create a supplemental power source to another mod that handles another host of machines for the workshop, our recycling plant, and charging pads for our power suits.

Deirdre looked over their shoulders to see what they were up too as they were counting and giggling so much.
