However, contact among civilizations caused rapid spread and adaptation of most instruments in places far from their origin. By the Middle Ages, instruments from Mesopotamia were in Maritime Southeast Asia, and Europeans played instruments from North Africa. Development in the Americas occurred at a slower pace, but cultures of North, Central, and South America shared musical instruments. By 1400, musical instrument development slowed in many areas and was dominated by the Occident.
Musical instrument classification is a discipline in its own right, and many systems of classification have been used over the years. Instruments can be classified by their effective range, their material composition, their size, etc. However, the most common academic method, Hornbostel-Sachs, uses the means by which they produce sound. The academic study of musical instruments is called organology.

Prof Khurshid Ahmed was born on 23rd, March 1932 in Dehli. He did his graduation with elements of law, thereafter, obtained master degrees in Economics and Islamic Studies from University of Karachi. It may be added that University Of Karachi has conferred upon him an honorary degree in education for his outstanding services in the relevant field. It is worth mentioning that Prof Khurshid Ahmad became member of Islami Jamiat Talaba Pakistan in 1949 and reached the top slot of the Organization in 1953. He is a world-fame educationist, great economist, and versatile writer and a Muslim Missionary all of one.

He is well-versed in the philosophies of the Orient and that of the Occident. Islam, economics, constitutional studies, and education are his areas of interest. An outline of his major services in different fields is as under.

1. He taught in KarachiUniversity from1955 to 1958.

2. He held the portfolio, of the ministry of Development, and Planning, in 1978. He also served as Deputy Chairman of Planning Commission.

3. He has worked as a research scholar, in the University of Leister, England.

4. He remained vice President, of Shah Abdul Aziz University Jeddah, from 1978 to 1983.
5. He worked as Member National Hijra Committee, from 1978 to 1983.

6. He served, as Head of the Institute of economic in Islamic International University, Islam Abad from 1983 to 1987.

7. He was a member, of the Committee to review Islamic Laws in Sudan from 1986 to 1987.

8. He worked, as vice President of standing conference on Jews, Christians and Muslims in Europe, Berlin and London.

9. From 1988 to 1989 he worked, as member of Review Committee of Research and Training Institute of Islamic Development Bank Jeddah.

10. He was elected as Senator in 1985, 1997 and 2002 and remained Chairman of the Standing Committee of Senate for Economic Development and Planning.
11. He has founded two Institutions, namely, Institutes Of Policy Studies Islam Abad and Islamic Foundation Leister, UK.

12. He has been on the Board of Trustees, of the following.

Currently, he is vice President of Islamic Research Academy Karachi and Lahore. A part from this, he has edited quite a few ideological Journals. He has authored over 70 books in Urdu and English and contributed to other esteemed Papers, and Magazines. He has attended over one hundred Conferences and seminars in his personals and representative capacities. He is one of the pioneers in the field of Islamic Economics. In 1988, first Islamic Development Bank, Award was given to him. His services in the field were further recognized when covetous Shah Faisal International Award was conferred upon him, by United Kingdom of Saudi Arabia. American Government also acknowledged his contribution and honored him with fifth Annual American Finance Award in 1998. He joined Jamaat-e Islami in 1956 apart from being, Naib Amir (Vice President) he edits Jamaat organ, Monthly Tarjuman-ul-Quran.
