London - Soppy lovebirds who take to Twitter and Facebook to announce their love are a turn-off, according to a new study.

Researchers found nearly one in four Brits have felt annoyed by “virtual displays of affection” or VDAs.

More Brits than ever are using their computers to document their relationships, with nearly half admitting changing Facebook status to “in a relationship”, the survey found.

But couples who turn to computers to tell their better halves how much they love them are in fact committing the biggest dating faux pas of the internet age, according to the research.

The survey, by dating website match.com, revealed that a third of Brits said they had read an online comment about a painful break-up, but 58 percent would rather not know.

Explicit posts are the biggest turn off with some three-quarters of women saying they dislike that level of sharing.

And one in three people say they would rather not see people call their other halves by their pet names on social networking sites.

However, not all online displays of affection are balked at as 90 percent of those quizzed said they don't mind seeing a shared profile picture of a friend and their boyfriend or girlfriend.

Kate Taylor, the website's relationship expert, said 'VDAs' had replaced PDAs - public displays of affection - as the most cringe inducing dating fau pax.

She said: “We all like to share that tingly feeling you get at the start of a relationship.

“There's nothing wrong with letting your close friends know you're happy, but it's important to keep in mind who you're sharing it with.

“It's unlikely that you'll be close friends with everyone you interact with on social media. What might seem a sweet comment in the eyes of you and your friends could come across as sounding unintentionally smug in the eyes of an acquaintance.

“Remember, VDAs invite a similar reception to PDAs, while you might think nothing of a quick smooch on public transport, but it can make observers feel uncomfortable.

“Try to limit your personal messages to a private and secure site, rather than sharing them over social media.

“In this context, your VDAs remain moving and romantic and you won't be accused of attention-seeking.” - Daily Mail

Participants: The participants (2 per country) should have the following profile: trainers, youth workers, project managers.
Costs: 70% of the travel costs for selected participants are covered by the project, and they will be reimbursed after the project is finished. Training course called MediaPloyment brings together to Rabka-Zdrój, Poland between 23rd to 29th of October 2013, 24 experienced youth leaders, trainers, youth workers, project managers from Armenia, Belarus, Azerbaijan, France, Georgia, Germany, Italy, Moldavia, Poland, Spain, Ukraine, United Kingdom . The main aim is to raise visibility and awareness of Youth in Action program opportunities for co-operation between EU and EECA countries in order to enhanced understanding how social media could be useful tool for youth in finding employment and increase awareness of danger which comes with it. Social media refers to websites, technology, applications or tools that allow online sharing of information, and encourage interaction between individuals via the internet. Some of these tools focus on building online communities or networks, and they can also be used to facilitate finding job vacancies, getting advice and guidance to help in the job search. By using non-formal education methods and organizing a meeting with a specialist we will try to emphasize to young people how to take advantage of websites they use every day not only in order to have fun but also advance their careers and for entrepreneurial activities, bearing in mind the indication of the hazards awaiting them such as cyber- bullying. Pax will be involved in different activities through the methodology of non formal education, with methods that will include round tables, group discussions, simulation, theatre, roleplay, presentations, and anything that can stimulate their participation and creativity. Moreover the time which participants will spend together will either be opportunity to build a network among organizations active in the youth field.
The acquisition of such competences will be useful for young people to apply it in their life and work, especially in a period in which unemployment has reached incredibly high numbers in several European countries. The promotion of a tool like the Youthpass, to recognize these competences, will also be a key point. The result of this Training Course will be the production of useful manual about the themes above mentioned which will be useful tool not only for youth leaders but also youngsters searching for the tips how effectively find a job using social media.
