cheltenham 2013

Thank you Drew for this update! Automated Recycling: One final reminder that the program will start officially next week on April 1st. While many people started using the blue cans weeks ago, we need to get you in the habit of placing them in the correct position. When placing the new cart at the curb for pickup, position it a few feet from any surrounding obstacles, including trash cans, vehicles, poles, hydrants or landscaping. Place the cart in the street with the wheels back against the curb or grass. Use the location of the emptied cart as a guide to the best placement. (Where the can is dropped off after collection next week, please use that spot until the end of time!)

If you don’t want to keep your old recycling containers for storage or other uses you may recycle them via the new carts or drop them off at the Public Works Facility for reuse or recycling. The facility, located at 8101 Old York Road in Elkins Park, is open weekdays from 8:00 a.m. to 3:30 p.m. and Saturdays from 10:00 a.m. to 2:00 p.m., unless affected by a holiday.

Traffic Safety Signs: Beginning April 1, 2013, residents will be able to come to the Police Department and request one of two different lawn sign designs “Slow Down in Cheltenham” or “School’s Open, Drive Carefully,” to place on their property. The Cheltenham Township Police Department, with the support of the Commissioners, is happy to announce the start of the Lawn Sign Traffic Safety program. The program was initiated in response to residents' concerns about traffic safety within their neighborhoods. Increased visibility of traffic-calming signs will hopefully make motorists more aware of their driving habits, resulting in slower and safer drivers within the Township. Residents may come to the Police Department at 8230 Old York Road in Elkins Park between 8:00AM and 8:00PM to request the sign of their choice. They must provide their name, address, phone number and email in case the Police Department needs to contact them. Any questions may be directed to the Police Department Highway Safety Unit at 215-885-1600, ext. 475 or ext. 476

Roberts Block Update: After seven long years, I am pleased to report the Roberts Block Building has been sold to a developer who intends to rehab the building. This property has been a blight on our community. Settlement will be this coming April. Many people have worked diligently to make this a reality. They have my eternal gratitude. I thank you all for your patience in allowing me to use my best judgment in dealing with the property and its prior owners. I am pleased to report the buyer is from a nearby community and has experience with these types of rehab projects.

'£10,000 of power tools stolen from Travis Perkins in Cheltenham'

Thursday, March 28, 2013 The Echo

POLICE are investigating after more than £10,000 worth of power tools were stolen from the Travis Perkins in Cheltenham.
Burglars broke into a timber shed at the site in Gloucester Road shortly before 2.40pm on Sunday.

Gloucestershire Constabulary
A police spokeswoman said: "Due to the large number of items taken it's thought that the thieves may have used a vehicle to transport the stolen goods and investigating officers would like to hear from anyone who might have seen a vehicle waiting in the area.
They'd also like to hear from anyone that was walking along the Honeybourne Line, which runs behind the store, on Sunday afternoon that might have seen anything suspicious or out of the ordinary."

Potential witnesses are asked to call Gloucestershire Police on 101, quoting incident number 64 of March 25.
Or if you if wish to stay anonymous, call Crimestoppers on 0800 555 111.

***GRAND NATIONAL BETS 2013***

I could write pages on all the potential contenders in this race, but instead I'm just going to tell you who I’ve back and why. I've been through last year’s race over and over trying un-pick all the goings on.
I always bet on 4 horses for the national:

SEABASS 9/1 – You just can’t ignore this horse. Didn’t really do much wrong last year and ran into a brilliant 3rd place considering he was thrown into The National unplanned. 5lbs higher this year, he will need to improve to have any chance of winning. However, the owners have been preparing him for this one race all year, and therefore should be at least placing, if not going one better and making Katie Walsh the first woman to win the race.

CAPPA BLEU 12/1 – Arguably finished the strongest of all the competitors last year, only let down by his jumping on occasions. 2lbs lower this time round and the ground will suit this horse perfectly. His last outing at Ascot was extremely promising giving him strong place claims. His jumping needs to improve to get the win, but the yards consistency in this race is admirable, and 12/1 isn’t to be missed.

BALTHAZAR KING 20/1 – An interesting horse who loves to front-run, keeping him out of all the mayhem that is sure to unfold. Has been successful over these changed fences and has performed brilliantly recently at Cheltenham. An out and out stayer, you can be sure he’ll have a bit left when it matters.

AURORA’S ENCORE 80/1 – Everyone loves an outsider, and this horse seems to be hugely overpriced in my opinion. One of the few horses at this end of the betting who is proven at this trip, coming up just short over 4miles in the Scottish National off a 6lb higher mark. Prefers this sort of ground, the only worry would be his jumping. But if it avoids trouble, 80/1 will look huge!
