I am a chess buff. You know that India's Viswanathan Anand has won the World Chess Championship 5 times. He will be defending his World championship in November 2013. A tournament called the Candidates tournament is now underway in London to determine a challenger to Anand's crown. A Norwegian prodigy called Magnus Carlsen is the world's top ranked chess player according to ELO ratings (Elo rating system is a method for calculating the relative skill levels of players in two-player games such as chess. It is named after its creator Arpad Elo). Carlsen is also competing in the London Candidates tournament: he has been leading in points and looked all set to win the tournament and become the challenger to Anand. But something happened late last night: in the 12th round of the 14 round tournament, he had lost to veteran Vassily Ivanchuk and at the same time Vladimir Kramnik, a 3 time former world champion had won his 12th round game to surge into lead. With only 2 more rounds to go, would Carlsen be able to regain his lead? This is significant, because, Carlsen is in such awesome form in the recent months that he looked certain, not only to become the challenger, but, actually beat Anand.

How did you get into the Rockin/Rockabilly scene? Was it the music, a band, a great night out, the look? I was grown up around Rockin People and Teds in Penge and ended up going to Clubs with them in my early teens. Never looked back..ohh, and Elvis was my main man as a kid!

"Not then. Not tomorrow. But today."
I told him of the first casino
Rush fun, all chips gone
He told me of poker days, always a good hand
Now, he can move just one.
I told him I ran to catch trains, lingered over bridge chains, sprained in the snow
And he told me he needs to master to sit on wheels
But very few places he can go.
I told him of hills in Pest, streets in Taiwan, Paris, London
The passion I found
And he told of chess, papered walls of his room,
Where he is healing, all day bed-bound
Seen places, met people and I wondered where he'd be
This time I listened, he didn't have to say
Bygone years kept a daughter at heart
That's where she'd always stay.
