Love her or loath her, Margaret Thatcher had a huge impact on British society. My own view is that she did things that needed to be done, but often did them in the wrong way. She changed Britain, she made made us a nation of house owners and share buyers, changed the Conservative Party significantly, and the Labour Party profoundly. I think she made our society poorer in spirit in some senses, though her life stands as an example to meritocracy. One of her staunchest political allies, Norman Tebbit, is a great political hero of mine, moreover, and the manner of her political demise was pretty unattractive.
