Today I was riding up the F6 on an afternoon ride, I must have looked a bit thirsty, as fans of my epic journey decided that I needed some sugar intake and lobed a McDonald cup full of coke at me.
Now, I would have preferred that they pulled over and commenced screams of encouragement as I climbed the hill and handed me the coke at the top, the encouragement would have been appreciated and the coke declined, only on the principle that I try not to support McDonalds – the special sauce (ha) of a lot of overweight people, but no, they took it that I must have needed a quick sugar hit and with the aim of a precision bomber let go of cup in my general direct.
The aim of the coke was as if it had been sprayed by a crop duster, the coke at 110km/h vaporised into a sugary mess for me to ride into, the McDonald’s cup tumbled away.
Well, I’ll describe the bomber for all to note: The bomber on this occasion was a gold commodore approximately VS with Free styler on the back window; did I mention the ‘P’ plate? Yes the vehicle had a P plate.
Now, we were all young at some point, P plates on cars, the freedom, the friends, but that part of my life never involved throwing things out of cars at unsuspecting riders.
Am I getting old? (Yes) Is it a generational thing (maybe), are younger people (P) more unruly/risk takers, less disciplined now, probably.
Now, I believe in a lot of things, but one of the things I believe is that for every action there are consequences, either today tomorrow or at some future point in your life.
The actions of throwing a cup of Coke at me shows the person is a risk taker, cares little other people health or wellbeing and has no concept of consequences.
That young person that throws a coke will have to negotiate a world with many pitfalls and will probably circulate with the same group of people which will only increase the risk of consequences in their life.
Now I’m just going to put it out there into the ether.. The act of 1 coke thrown could have equated to damage to me or my bike if I was scared easily.. It did not happen but still, the act took place, and for every action there has always been an equal and opposite reaction.
As I could not spin my bike up to 110km/h and chase car I will have to allow time and consequence to take effect.
1 coke thrown in Marks law of consequence should =A broken nose at some point in the person life.
Or you tell me what it should equal?? A good behavior bond, $50 fine for littering..
