So God made a farmer:

God looked down on the earth HE created and said, "I need a caretaker for this world I have made", so God made a farmer.

God said, "I need someone ready to get up before dawn and milk the cows, till the fields, milk the cows again and then go to town and stay past midnight at the meeting of the school board", so God made a farmer.

God said, "I need someone with strong arms, strong enough to wrestle a calf, but gentle enough to deliver his own grandchild; Somebody to call the hogs, tame cantankerous machinery, come home hungry and have to wait for lunch until his wife is done entertaining visiting ladies and then tell the ladies "I hope you all come back real soon" and mean it, so God made a farmer.

God said, "I need somebody to sit up all night with a newborn colt and watch it die; then dry his eyes and say "maybe next year". I need someone to shape an axe handle from a Persimmon sprout and shoe a horse with a hunk of tire; make a harness out of haywire, feedsacks and show scraps; who at planting time and harvest will finish his 40 hour by Tuesday noon, then paining from tractor back put in another 72 hours", so God made a farmer.

God had to have someone to ride the ruts at double speed, to get the hay in ahead of the rain clouds and yet stop in mid-field to race to help when he sees the first smoke from a neighbor's place, so God made a farmer.

God had to have someone strong enough to clear trees and heave hay bales, yet gentle enough to tame lambs, wean pigs and tend the pink-combed pullets; who will stop his mower for an hour to splint the broken leg of a Meadow Lark because his granddaughter is in tears, so God made a farmer.

It had to be someone who would plow deep and straight and not cut corners; Somebody to seed and weed and breed cattle and milk cows; Somebody to rake and disc and plow and plant the fields, to plow snow and strain the milk; Somebody to replenish the self-feeder and finish a hard day's work with a five mile drive to church; Somebody who would bale a a family together with the soft, strong bonds of sharing and caring, who would laugh and then sigh and then reply with smiling eyes when his son or daughter says they want to spend his life doing what dad does, so God made a farmer.

All these and more are the things that a farmer does to feed the world. Lets take the time to thank an American Farmer for their hard work, dedication and efforts to provide us with the food in our homes, the steak we eat and the milk we drink. Let's work to keep farming in America for generations to come. Thank a farmer for the food you eat and for the open space they provide to us and future generations.

Since this is MY page, I will say what is on my mind. I am very upset because one of our horse owners had a foal that had been stepped on by his mom in the night (we guess). He has seen two vets, and we have been doing as they said. BUT, some busy body had to go gossiping at the feed store, and that woman came over and snooped around and called the humane society, even after being told the horse was seeing a vet. WE had asked the owner if we could take him to our friend at the track equine clinic and have him computer assessed tomorrow. We knew if he said "nope", it would mean putting him down. The humane society was nice, and their vet said he was probably not going to get better and put him down. When they called him the owner was not at home and did not have the papers to tell them the name of the vets who had come out, which I had asked him to leave for us.

I am not upset that the foal was put down if that was best for him, but I am upset about busybodies who go around thinking they know better than owners and their own vets.

The humane societies never have time to go deal with people abusing horses in the park, or on the trails, but they do have time to come out on the word of a woman that in my opinion has never proven herself that experienced in horsemanship. I have worked as THE vet tech who takes care of severely injured performance and race horses on the vets direction for three decades, and have been with horses since a teen working in stables where many of the horses were severely injured and recovered.

There was no question by the vet who put the colt down that he had had superior care, and she as amazed at how well he was doing. We all knew that tomorrow our own vet might look at the tests and say he had to be put down, but besides being broken hearted, not being there and given a chance to take care of horse I had gone a long way day after day to take care of, he is NOT even my horse and I do not get paid for it, and I did not get to say goodbye or soothe his Mom.

People need to stop being so self righteous. That bitch is now out congratulating herself that the horse was put down and she SAVED it. She did not. I feel very crabby.

Yesterday I rode my thoroughbred horse on the beach. She rides like a cadillac and is sweet as pie. As a little girl I used to dream of being a race jockey. Who knew I would be riding a real thoroughbred, much less own one?
