ON THIS DATE IN HISTORY APRIL 4, 1960: Ben-Hur wins 11 Academy Awards
Clocking in at three hours and 32 minutes, William Wyler’s Technicolor epic Ben-Hur is the behemoth entry at the 32nd annual Academy Awards ceremony, held on this day in 1960, at the RKO Pantages Theatre in Hollywood. Setting an Oscar record, the film swept 11 of the 12 categories in which it was nominated, including Best Picture, Best Director and Best Actor (Charlton Heston).
Wyler’s 1959 film was the latest dramatic adaptation of the mega-bestselling novel Ben-Hur: A Tale of the Christ, published in 1880 by Lew Wallace. Wallace, a former general in the American Civil War, wrote his most successful novel after experiencing a new awakening of his Christian faith. The book told the story of a young Jewish aristocrat, Judah Ben Hur, who chafes against the repressive Roman rule in Judea, loses his fortune and his family, but eventually triumphs over obstacles (thanks partially to the intervention of Jesus Christ).
After Wallace’s novel was adopted into a long-running stage play in 1899 and a short film in 1907, Metro-Goldwyn-Mayer bought the film rights and produced a major motion-picture version, directed by Cecil B. DeMille, in 1925. After DeMille scored a hit with a remake of his own 1923 biblical epic The Ten Commandments (1956), MGM decided to revive Ben-Hur as well. Wyler had worked on the set of DeMille’s 1925 version and the square-jawed Heston played Moses in The Ten Commandments.
Filmed on location in Italy, on a budget of some $15 million, Ben-Hur was the most expensive movie ever made up to that point. The film’s famous chariot race scene alone took three weeks to shoot and used some 15,000 extras. The setting for the race was constructed on 18 acres of back-lot space at Cinecitta Studios outside Rome. Aside from a few of the most daredevil stunts, Heston and Stephen Boyd (who played Messala, Judah Ben-Hur’s boyhood friend turned bitter enemy) did most of their own chariot driving. The payoff was big: Writing in his review of the film for the New York Times, Bosley Crowther called the scene a “stunning complex of mighty setting, thrilling action by horses and men, panoramic observation and overwhelming dramatic use of sound.”
At the 1960 Oscars, Ben-Hur swept 11 categories, including Best Picture, Best Director, Best Actor, Best Supporting Actor (Hugh Griffith, playing an Arab sheik who befriends Ben-Hur), Best Color Cinematography, Best Color Art Direction/Set Direction, Best Sound, Best Score, Best Film Editing, Best Color Costume Design and Best Special Effects. It was also nominated in the Best Adapted Screenplay category. Ben-Hur’s record number of Oscars still stands, although two films (1997’s Titanic and 2003’s The Lord of the Rings: The Return of the King) have matched it.

Elections in Kenya are too Divisive, too Fractious, too Destabilizing, took Tribal hate invoking, too Immature - We are two generations away from undertaking free and fair elections.
We can say with certainty that there have been only two times when Kenya came very near to conducting real democratic free and fair vote:
1. In 2002 National elections
2. In 2005 Plebiscite
The rest have always left too many unanswered question and unhealed tribal woulds. At one time I had suggested that we go the China way were we elect the County Official (Collages) and then they all meet in secret and appoint a president.
As things stand today Uhuru, may be the president - elect but 3/4 of the Country's population is very bitter. I am sure he is aware of this and may be he has a workable solution to it.
My unsolicited advice to Uhuru is to actually move into parliament and enact a law giving him power to form an all encompassing Government of National Unity, thereby extending an Olive branch to all his competitors.

When i was young, i thought dad hated us we
children, he used to speak in a commanding Voice
that scared us.
He could give us hard rules to follow, like not
touching on the Radio, going to his room opening the
Cupboard, going to our neighbors and whoever did, he was punished Heavily.
Whenever we could something, my Mum used to tell
us that when ur dad comes i'll tell him and he will
"Kill" you and whenever he could come, when told,
he could beat us.
At the age below 7, i felt i hated him. When we started growing old, some of the
restrictions he removed them. We could be allowed
to do things which we were not allowed.
At the Age of 15 i started realising his love, whenever
i could be going, he could give me School fees, then
add me money which he called Pocket Money for me to use at school.
He could smile to me as am going and welcome me
warmly as the term ends with a delicious Meal.
Now at my age of 20 he even calls me asking when
will i come to visit them.
And whenever i visit them, i feel like crying when am departing/ leaving them
I NOTED THIS.
The instructions and rules he gaveus were meant to
keep us safe, and/or thing in our environment.
Fathers pray an Important role in providing us with
all we need. Food, shelter, clothing, education and all the care we
have is because of fathers' love.

Did you know that you can check your image before you print it to see if the quality is good enough to print?
One of the key factors to whether your digital picture looks good when it is printed is its resolution. Resolution simply means how many pixels, in other words how many dots, are in your digital photo. If the resolution is very high (i.e., there are many dots), the picture will look crisp and sharp. If the resolution is low, it will look jagged and rough, especially at large print sizes.
All things being equal, a digital camera with more pixels will produce pictures with better resolution than a camera with less pixels. A 1 mega pixel camera means that the camera records 1 million pixels or dots per picture on its highest quality setting. Be aware that if you change your camera's settings to allow it to hold more pictures on the memory device, you may be reducing the number of pixels per picture, thereby affecting the quality when you print your photos.
The better the resolution, the larger the file size generally is. Larger files can clog email boxes and take a longer time to download from a web site. As a result, many pictures you see in emails or on non photo-related web sites are often scaled down to a low resolution that is not suitable for high quality prints.
