Also in my definition, any citizen who takes a day out of their busy schedule to visit their legislators in Olympia is a patriot.
All those citizens who came to Olympia on Thursday to make their voices heard in opposition to the current design of the CRC were vigorously defending their community and it's way of life.
To boldly state on FB that I think being pro-crc is unpatriotic is patently false. It surprised me that Roger Daniels joined Greg Owens and Mike Mike Briggs in this chorus. I expect this vitriol from the latter.
From time to time, I do receive a few emails from constituents that are in favor of the CRC. I read their emails and listen to their viewpoints. Their position represents about 3% of the hundreds of emails I receive about this mega project. (This is likely the same % of light rail ridership we can expect). The other 97% are thanking me for standing up against this flawed project.
Respectfully, I respond to those 3% and thank them for contacting my office. I also tell them no one should be surprised about my position against the proposed CRC design. I campaigned for a year to get this job. My official campaign website had two entire pages dedicated to my position on the CRC. At every single candidate forum and public meet and greet for an entire year, the CRC came up. I was consistent in my position.
Can you imagine voting for and electing someone knowing full well their position on the most controversial issue in our community, and then watch them flip right after the election?
Wow, that would be a stunner on several levels.
1. IT'S NOT RIGHT. It's not the right thing to do, flipping I mean - on a huge issue - right after your election.
2 POLITICAL SUICIDE. This is not as important as No. 1 but still a reality.
3. BETRAYAL OF TRUST. How can you be trusted on any important issue in the future. You tell the voters one thing, and then a few months later... you espouse an opposite view? Really?
I vote for candidates who tell the truth. I hope you do to.
