Booting up Defiance. I have high hopes for this game but time will tell.
Looks to be a 3rd person shooter fusion of Fall Out 3, Borderlands, in a dynamic environment like Rift.

"It really seems like Nintendo isn't going to make it this gen. They lost so much third party support in less than a year, and now it won't even support the latest engines. I'm not even confidant in their first and second party titles anymore."

~ Every doubter/self proclaimed doom and gloom prophet that said the EXACT same thing when the Wii had its flawed reveal in 2006.

If Nintendo survived that drought of support and the lack of beginning support for the 3DS, then what makes this gen any different.

And before you regurgitate an excuse along the lines of "well they got lucky and clearly never learned their lesson," same could be said for people like you. People who like to abandon and cower away at the first sign of opposing odds. As Nintendo of France stated:

"Our belief is that sales react to the games lineup. Lowering the price, without any compelling software will produce nothing.

Our responsibility is to provide a solid games catalog."

I don't know about you and the PC Elitists, but I don't care what engine a game is running. As long as it a damn fine game to play, that's all that matters in the end. Don't believe me? Then why do games like Luigi's Mansion Dark Moon (http://www.metacritic.com/game/3ds/luigis-mansion-dark-moon) and MH3 Ultimate (http://www.metacritic.com/game/wii-u/monster-hunter-3-ultimate) which don't use any Unreal Engine have higher Metacritic and user scores than GoW Judgement (http://www.metacritic.com/game/xbox-360/gears-of-war-judgment) which does use UE3.5?

*** FROM GAMESPOT ***
Independent games industry analyst Billy Pidgeon, who has previously worked at Inside Network, M2 Research and IDC, has said that Square Enix's recently launched Tomb Raider reboot will need to sell at least five million copies to be successful.

Yesterday Square Enix revealed that Tomb Raider had sold 3.4 million copies since its launch at the start of the month, but this was not enough for it to meet sales expectations.

Speaking to GamesIndustry International, Pidgeon added that Square Enix's focus on single-player IP is becoming problematic for the publisher. "The AAA market is extremely competitive," he said. "Most of Square Enix's franchises are single player games, which are less popular than multiplayer. Square Enix has been a leader in that sector, but now faces stronger competition from multiple publishers, both large and small, including Bethesda, Capcom, Xseed, Atlus and Level 5.

"Square Enix's franchises are well established and require ever-higher production budgets to match and surpass past performance. The latest Hitman and Tomb Raider sold in the three million unit range and got Metacritic ratings above 8. Those numbers would rate as successful for JRPGs that earn more from vendors as exclusives and have manageable budgets."

"But for games with development budgets approaching $100 million to be truly profitable, ratings have to be above 8.5 and sales need to be in the five to ten million unit range."

Tomb Raider was awarded an 8.5 in its GameSpot review.

Pidgeon also said that the next year will be "very tough" for Square Enix, but that the departure of outgoing president Yoichi Wada will be positive for the company.

Veteran analyst Billy Pidgeon says Tomb Raider needs 5 to 10 million sales to be successful
Square Enix

The single-player focus of Square Enix's IP stable has left the company in a difficult position, according to veteran video game analyst Billy Pidgeon.

In a note passed to GamesIndustry International, Pidgeon predicted that that the imminent departure of CEO and president Yoichi Wada will herald positive changes for the company. However, the coming year will be "very tough" for Square Enix, as it waits to see returns on its investments in new markets.

"On the positive side, the company has made investments in online, social and mobile games including free-to-play games," said Pidgeon, an independent analyst who previously worked at Inside Network, M2 Research and IDC. "Many of these, such as the browser based games, won't bring in significant income for a year or more.

"For games with development budgets approaching $100 million to be truly profitable, ratings have to be above 8.5 and sales need to be in the five to ten million unit range"

"Some of these have done well in Korea, which is a very competitive and mature market, but Square Enix's micro-transaction-based role playing and collectible card games haven't performed well in Japan or in the West."

On the console side, the outlook is somewhat ambiguous. Square Enix has strong IP to work with, but making properties like Hitman, Tomb Raider and Thief successful enough in the landscape of modern AAA games is no small task.

Those numbers would rate as successful for JRPGs that earn more from vendors as exclusives and have manageable budgets.

"But for games with development budgets approaching $100 million to be truly profitable, ratings have to be above 8.5 and sales need to be in the five to ten million unit range."
