While I strongly support the student representatives of the SSCCC Council and believe that most understand the structure of the organization and the process by which positions are determined by the 113 delegates of the Student Senate for California Community Colleges who entrust the 30 Council members to express their will, I am becoming increasingly alarmed and unsettled that on more than several occasions this term certain Senators have expressed and demonstrated a willingness to ignore standing and binding resolutions passed by the 113 delegates at General Assemblies.

The SSCCC is a bottom up organization in which the Regions and the Council are beholden to and must express the will of the delegates.

At a time in which the organization is stretched thin by limited resources, almost bled dry, soliciting support and financial contributions from its constituents who charge it with its course and right as it is beginning a campaign for a statewide funding mechanism that the 113 colleges would actively have to support in order to ensure passage.

Why would any college be willing to entrust the organization with funding to support its mission when it would appear that at any given moment elitist individuals could choose to ignore the will of the students?

Why have a General Assembly? Why make local AS's spend so much money to participate in crafting the voice and will of the body? Why spend all that time debating?

The 113 colleges in the system and its 2.4 million students are a diverse group with a wide range of opinions. The resolution process is not perfect but is at this time the best method we have ti build condenses.

So my attempt to pass the torch of classic films failed miserably today. Tried watching "The Wizard of Oz" with Andrew. All was good, until the munchkins showed up and started singing "Ding dong, the witch is dead". At which point Andrew said it was too scary, and I should put back on channel 123 (Nick Jr.)......maybe next year.
