Don't take any of this to heart, alright? The source I'm getting this from isn't exactly the most reputable, but a lot of this stuff is incredibly intriguing:

Stuff about Pokemon X and Y:

Tons of stuff changes so I'll lets start with STORY.

Team Rocket? Plasma? Another team with a nefarious plot?

Nope. The antagonist in X and Y is Mewtwo. Yep.

He's become, uh well, pissed at human's and their misuse of Pokemon and has devised a way to give other Pokemon human characteristics.

tl;dr Pokemon Mewtwo thinks are worthy can talk and battle.

Your goal in the game is to become strong enough to stop Mewtwo from taking over, which he is trying to do, by swaying the new legendaries, to his side.

Oh they're new types btw. Light and sound like everyone guessed

There are two new Eeveelutions based on sex and happiness.

Males become sound when their happiness is high enough and they hold a new item.

Females become light when their happiness is high enough and they hold a new item.

The Fire, Electric, Ice legendaries will be dinosaurish looking things that you get via fossils.

Yveltal and Xerneas are X and Y.

The ancient types are

Shocktun, Inferdeux, and Frostrois.

Pokemon will not walk by your side in this game.

Only 3 HM's now; Surf, Fly, and Mount.

HMs are not useable in battle but are transportation abilities.

The other HMs are now TMs and can be used for their original purposes but not required.

Day and Night is largely the same. Region is more "open world" but not quite like what you want. It accounts more for having random users in your game that you can battle (real trainers).

Real trainer battles work sort of like duels in other games. Someone initiates, the other accepts and you surrender with 1hp left on your last Pokemon.

You can wager before hand, too, seeing the opposing trainers average level and badge total.

EXP will be gained from battles.

Mewtwo now has 'plates' that change him(Similar to Arceus.)(Very skeptical on this, but w/e.)

There are still eight primary gyms, but there are six more "legend" gyms after you beat the elite four.

After you beat all the legend gyms you will have another elite four match up featuring the main characters from all the previous games.

The champion? Red.

Frostrois looks like a stegosaurus with triceratops head.

Inferndeux is essentially a raptor with flaming claws.

And Shocktun is tyrannosaurusesque

Final Stater types: Grass
Fire
Water/Ground (again).

you actually fly your Pokemon. You can still "fast travel" but if you want to take the scenic route it's amazing.

The mount feature is a nice, and faster, change of pace to the rollerblades, too.

Requirements for mount is four legs and applicable size plus the new "bond" feature has to be positive or else the Pokemon will "buck" you off.

No Pikachu riding, sorry.

Lots of exploration.

No running shoes. There is a moped type thing though it seems.
