IT was a day of ups and downs for jockey Ed Glassonbury at Great Trethew. His day started with a well earned double before an injury put an end to his afternoon.
Hill of Content is not the easiest of rides but initiated Glassonbury’s double in the opening Maiden. The hard pulling five-year-old raced into a clear lead before half way and did well to last home. “We got Hill of Content cheaply out of Dermot Weld’s yard at Doncaster sales and he runs for a small local syndicate,” said trainer Leslie Jefford.
21-year-old Glassonbury completed his double when Harrymetsally just edged out Zumo Bishop in the second section of the four to seven year old Maiden which was divided on the day. This Kings Theatre mare was purchased at the Fairyhouse Derby sales last June and is trained by Keith Cumings for owners Hannah and Andrew Broggio.
Josh Guerriero experienced a bumpy ride in this contest, completing the whole of the final circuit minus his irons after his saddle had slipped following a collision at the open ditch. Despite his painful experience the rider still managed to steer Raffa into a creditable third place.
Guerriero enjoyed a smoother passage on the well backed Waldo Pepper in the Exeter Intermediate qualifier. The nine-year-old forging clear of Cherry Vine after the second last. The winner is trained by Chloe Roddick for owner David Luff. “He will probably go for a hunter chase at Exeter,” said Luff who is always kept busy as the jockeys’ valet in the area. Chloe Roddick’s chance of a double quickly evaporated in the Restricted when Combehay ducked the wrong side of a marker after the second fence. Promising youngster Babeny Bridge went on to follow up his course debut success in February in good style in this race, with Lizzie Kelly again in the saddle.
Uncle Keef readily followed up his recent Buckfastleigh success in the hands of Tom Chanin in the Open, but Glassonbury’s good day came to an end here when he suffered a broken collar bone in a second last fence fall. It was left to Josh Guerriero to do the good Samaritan work, ferrying his fellow jockey to Barnstaple hospital after the races.
Lady jockeys mopped up the remainder of the card: Bryony Frost got Susan Roe’s Railway Vic home in a good finish to the first section of the maiden. Bryony was winning her fifth race of the season, and just failed to add to that total when Wee Fly finished runner up to Turthen in the Novice Riders’ event. Turthen has been a splendid mount for Eleri Apps, scoring three times for her this year, but sadly this winner of 11 races during his career collapsed and died in the winner’s enclosure.

We got a call from a horse rider that a husky was in the field behind new houses (woodside chase) colburn this was around 2pm we then also had several more calls seeing the husky go across road to jet garage then into estate we had a team out for four hours but sadly not sighting there was also a runner out looking for him its hard to say if this is nanook but there is a husky on the loose in and around colburn so if people can look in this area the dog needs to be caught as its crossed the main road three times yesterday will be out again today
