Once again the Electronic media has gone so horribly wrong.Without giving a thought to the sensitivity of the tragedy hit family , it has jumped into the ugly politics over the tragic death of SFI activist in Kolkata. The circumstance of Sudipta Gupta's death is under investigation n does call for impartial probe. But the media as usual has gone all out ballistic with the version of the CPM's half baked politicized version planted neatly as a package deal!!It once again exposes the insensitive ravaged vulture mind set of our media n it does make one sic.
Unfortunately ,Indian democracy(including the media) is far away from attaining maturity n sophistication of debating n resolving issues n policies from platforms/institutions.The blackmailers of Indian democracy (particularly of the left n BJP kind) stage all kinds of street shows n disrupts parliament (rather than debate), more to flex muscles than to make debating point.
The fallout of of the consequences of undemocratic brand of politics r often undesirable. But is there any sane voice in our media or polity? Both r equally guilty.
Our politicians r notorious to making a political killing by pushing innocent activists to dangerous harm so that they can score brownie point over their rivals.its nothing new.Innocent people have always been victim to this shameless scheming of politicians. The death occurred during the law violation rally of the SFI/CPM demanding student union elections in WB colleges, vch vr stalled due to regular out break of violence during such student's elections. It is an open secret that the presence of party affiliated unions r responsible for campus violence.Neither the left regime nor the present dispensation made any effort to implement the Lyngdoh recommendations. No one has yet learned any lesson from this tragedy.
The fact is that Sudipto along with other SFI activists vr arrested n put into a bus to be taken to police station. There most probably was some skirmish by provoking an attack on the lone cop accompanying the students inside the packed bus , vch cud have pushed Sudipto to hang precariously on to the foot board of a moving private bus when he banged his head against the iron light post on the street side n fell.We do not know if he was deliberately pushed out by his own comrades but, vll not be shocked. The CPM has a history of such foul play .The exact circumstances r not yet clear. But ,as wrongly reported , there certainly was no police smashing , lashing or bashing on Sudipto. It was a tragic end of a young innocent life from a very humble back ground. My heart goes out to the devastated father n hold CPM equally to blame for his death n they too have blood in their hands. They do have a history to push their young one's to danger for political gains.
Though not a big admirer of Mamta's brand of politics, but the way our national media imm went ballistic on Mamata's Bengal is shocking n shameful .The untrained n political motivated agenda of the main stream reporters who r least interested in the truth or bothered to do some good hard ground work rather than blindly picking up from the CPM's propaganda machinery.Bengal has a long tradition of using students in the political arena on the streets of Bengal. Have we forgotten Late Jyoti basu's insensitive n reckless comment about the 8 lady medical officers raped, murdered n burned while on their way back from a probe relating to medical fraud involving CPM leaders???
The same media had for decades looked away from the killing fields of Bengal n kept dishing out 'best' law n order' certificates to the bloody n most corrupt CPM regimes of Bengal. The lady has disturbed the well entrenched business cronies of the left who r most probably funding the excessive media back lash . She has been bungling on a number of issues but on this issue n several other occasions the media is seriously wanting in honesty.Once again the media has failed the people n democracy of our country.

North Korea and the long "war"
It always surprises me when we as Americans react with shock when countries and regimes such as Iran and North Korea threaten us with their nuclear arsenal. Look at a map of the world and it will reduce your amazement. These two in particular are not in the most comfortable position. But let's take the latest threat from NK. First of all, they are now led by the third generation Kim dictatorship. But he is under thirty years old and being, supposedly, under the influence of his military and trying to establish his own credentials. What better way than to threaten war with South Korea and the US? That's the easy part, be a bully who threatens another (US) bully. The problem for Kim is how to get out of this and what to get out of it. If you make these threats you better have some way to back it up or you lose credibility with your own military. So, with the war games in South Korea and the US flying overhead he waves the nukes in our face. But there is surely more to come. I don't think an all out war is too likely, but a skirmish off some small island just to show they mean business is a distinct possibility. Then there is the second possibility for Kim, which is to untie the noose around NK's neck. They can not do business with any nation other than China and Iran. Forget Iran. But China has a common border and fears a huge influx of refugees should a hot war begin. That would be the camel that breaks China's back as they don't exactly relish the idea of feeding millions of starving North Koreans. The NK regime is basically surrounded and their only weapon is nuclear. Our allies in South Korea and Japan will not tolerate more threats and military gesturing without having the ability to not only defend themselves but also the support of the United States, the UN, and the rest of the world community. The last thing the US needs is another Iraq. So in my opinion the best thing we can do is see this as something to not exactly ignore, but to remain calm politically, not to threaten back, and for China to step up their political and financial pressure on the NK. Having been to the north of China, Shenyang to be exact, I know personally how close to the situation the citizens of this area are, and how they must be threatened by the fear of a mass influx from NK. Calm heads on this side of the fence are needed. The NKs need the outside world. They need food. They need money. They don't know how to get it other than how they have proceeded since the end of World War II and the Korean War. They have built up the weapons while their people are starving. How long can this last without the end of this 60 year stalemate? We all hope that it ends soon and peacefully.
