The following is Alex's obituary. Please share as much as you like.

Alex Fraser Peer died unexpectedly on March 28, 2013, while swimming the breakers off the beach at Ocean Head, San Francisco, at the age of 30. He was born in Powell, Wyoming, on January 26th, 1983 to Ronda Peer and the late Dr. Jose Peer. Alex is survived by his mother Ronda, brother Bryan Tipton, and sister Jennifer Peer; his grandfather LaMoine Sorenson; numerous uncles, aunts, and cousins; and the host of friends who have all been touched by his light. We will miss him dearly.

Alex will be remembered for many things by many people. He graduated from Rocky Mountain High School in 2001 where, in his own words, he spent his time “developing socially.” He discovered his true academic ability at City College of San Francisco and later Cal Berkeley, where he graduated with honors, earning a BA in Classic Civilizations. He also studied abroad in Italy.

As an athlete, he played high school sports at Rocky Mountain High School. He took up boxing after high school and earned a Golden Glove. He loved the San Francisco Giants, the Cal Golden Bears, and the Wyoming Cowboys.

In his work, Alex was not only driven and professional, but his exuberance, infectious positive attitude, and love of people not only took him far in his service industry jobs, but won him the love and respect of those he worked for and those who worked for him. He spent his professional life at Bauer Transportation, DKR Hotel Partners, the Library Bar and Grille in both Laramie and Winter Park, CO, and most recently at Dixie in San Francisco.

We remember Alex’s love for his family, which though sometimes turbulent, was deep and unquestionable; his love of his heritage, and the claims that he was the descendant of the illegitimate offspring of Alvaro Obregon. We remember that though Alex had many friends, his friendship was always genuine and his charm always left us glad to have been in his company. Alex had family that considered him a friend, as well as friends that considered him family. Alex’s life touched many people, and many people deeply. Alex was precocious, bright, and daring.

A wake will be held for Alex at the Deaver Town Hall, starting at 1 pm on Saturday, the 13th of April. Additionally, a wake in San Francisco is being planned tentatively for April 23. All are invited to attend and share food, drink, and memories. Rather than gifts or flowers, please consider donating to The Alex Peer Memorial Fund, which will be donated to causes in which he believed – The Special Operations Warrior Foundation, The Human Rights Campaign – and be used to purchase a memorial in San Francisco.
