30 charges issued on teen accused in vehicle break-ins

A 16-year-old from Thomasville is facing 30 criminal charges after a Thomasville Police Department detective alleges he was involved in a rash of vehicle break-ins since early February.

Oscar Alvarez, of 501 Albertson Road, Lot 35, was placed in the Davidson County Detention Center under a $100,000 secured bond Thursday. He has been charged with 11 counts of felony breaking and entering into a motor vehicle, possession of drug paraphernalia, carrying a concealed weapon, three counts of felony breaking and entering, two counts of felony larceny after breaking and entering, two counts of felony larceny of a firearm, one count of felony safecracking and nine counts of misdemeanor larceny.

Arrest warrants state Alvarez's first offense occurred Feb. 6 and last one March 12.

TPD Detective Chet Jarrell alleges the vehicle break-ins occurred in the Albertson Road and Fisher Ferry Road areas. Alvarez also is accused of breaking into a residence on Albertson Road and another residence on Lowery Drive, as well as an outbuilding on Bobo Drive. Items reported stolen from those structures included firearms, cell phones, a camera, iPod, video game systems, laptop and DVD player. Jarrell alleges Alvarez made entry into a safe at the residence on Albertson Road.

Jarrell estimated about $4,000 in property was reported stolen from the break-ins, some of which has been recovered. He said electronics, including GPS units, were taken from motor vehicles, which were most commonly unlocked.

Through the investigation Jarrell developed Alvarez as a suspect. The detective said he is continuing his investigation into the rash of break-ins.

Jarrell reminds residents to lock their doors and secure their valuables.

It is ashamed, when you try doing a good deed to help save a life and get hospitalize in the process. Well I was given blood on March 4, 2013 and fainted to hours later. Once on the bus and came out and walk over to the Albertson’s store and fainted on the floor; mess up my leg in the process. When I told the hospital that I don’t have money to take care of the bills and ask them about charity care and they say they will take care of the bills. Which I would have to be qualified for charity care. Which, I thank the hospital for helping me with the bills. But, they told me that I will need to inform the Doctors offices about the charity care and out of four offices said, they do not do charity care. I would have to come up with the bills. If I had the money, I will paid it up in full. One office say if I pay anything to pay up the bills it is fine, but the doctor wants the money owed to him: which is $450.00. The other office is Radiology Associates of Clearwater $165.00, and they are not willing to take what I would give them, until I pay them up and Sunstar Emergency Medical Services for $645.14, which I have not call them yet to let them know. This is really a turn off to me, because I am a person likes to give, well, I will never give blood ever again. What happen to helping someone in need, when they need help? What would they say if God would say to them today, if they do not to a good deed, they will die and go to hell? I will continue trying to help everyone I can. This just show you, that the rich will get richer, and the poor will get poorer.
