Tottenham and Everton square off in a Sunday afternoon clash at White Hart Lane. This is one of the most decisive matches in this season's race for the top four.
Spurs currently sit in third place, but have a tenuous hold on their position given their extra match played. Meanwhile, Everton sit in sixth, just six points behind their North London opponents with a match in hand. If the Toffees win on Sunday, they could effectively draw level with Spurs and gain ground on a Champions League spot.
Tottenham come into this match off a great 2-1 win at Swansea in last week's Premier League encounter but they have lost 2 of their last 3 league matches and really need to win here to keep their top 4 spot. Further, Spurs fell behind 2-0 before rallying for a 2-2 draw at home against Basel in the Europa League Thursday, suggesting the side may be tired coming into this match.
Gareth Bale suffered a terrible looking ankle injury towards the end of Spurs' Europa League draw with Basel on Thursday night, but Andre Villas-Boas is hopeful that his star man will only miss 2 games as a result. Spurs have now not won a match in which Bale has failed to score in, since January 1st.
The Spurs manager is likely to also contend with the absences of Aaron Lennon (knee) and William Gallas (calf) who also suffered injuries during Thursday's clash at White Hart Lane. With Jermain Defoe also out injured for Spurs, the onus falls on Emmanuel Adebayor to hold the ball up in the front and help his side create chances.
The Toffess have won 3 straight matches scoring six and being breached just once. So they are in some strong form but all 3 were at home and they have Arsenal away coming up after this match too which will be tough.
For Everton, both Marouane Fellaini and Steven Pienaar are out suspended as they serve the second of their two-match bans. David Moyes could continue with the 3-5-2 formation rolled out against Stoke last weekend, which saw Leighton Baines and Seamus Coleman fielded on the left and right of midfield respectively. This could see Victor Anichebe partner Nikica Jelavic up top.
The fixture should be dramatic if the corresponding match was anything to go by; Everton scored twice in the last 3 minutes to snatch a vital win away from Spurs in a 2-1 victory in December.
