LEVERKUSEN CONSIDERING CHELSEA BID FOR SCHUERRLE

Bayer Leverkusen are considering selling rising Germany star Andre Schuerrle to Premier League giants Chelsea, Leverkusen's director of sport Rudi Voeller revealed on Saturday.
"There are always inquiries, not just about Andre," said Voeller after his side's 1-1 draw with Wolfsburg in the Bundesliga.
"The fact we are thinking about it is part of the business, we did the same last year," he added, referring to Chelsea's rejected offer of €25 million for Schuerrle just after they won the 2012 Champions League final.
Having won 22 caps for Germany, the 22-year-old started in the 4-2 quarter-final win over Greece at Euro 2012 and is a regular in the senior squad.
Leverkusen are also reported to be interested in signing Chelsea's promising Belgian midfielder Kevin de Bruyne, who is on loan at Werder Bremen, in a deal worth around €15m.
Indeed, reports this past week claimed Chelsea were willing to include de Bruyne as a makeweight in a deal for Schuerrle, who is equally comfortable playing on the wing as he is a central striker.
Mark Marin, who has endured a tough time at Chelsea following his summer move from Werder Bremen, has also been linked with a return to Germany in recent weeks.

This is why it's so easy to fall in love with European football. Take this video for example. Such a crucial victory for Newcastle United today. You can see how much it means to everyone present...even their 50+ year-old manager and multi-millionaire star player run into the stands to celebrate with their faithful supporters like they're best buds.
Can you imagine this in American professional sports? I know it's not really applicable because "fandom" is so different here compared to Europe (for most American sports fans anyway.) But still, imagine Kobe hitting a game-winner, running into the stands and letting grown men hug and kiss him while Mike D'Antoni jumps behind the bench and gets mobbed by ecstatic (and very drunk...haha) Lakers fans. Switch it out with Derek Jeter and Joe Girardi or Tom Brady and Bill Belichick, or whatever combo you choose. Pshhh. Forget about it.
I know most of this country is very anti-soccer, but as far as I'm concerned, there is NOTHING like it.

I have received a note back from Jesse regarding my comments on Americans and solo racing,. He is in fact the boat captain on "Hugo Boss", Alex Thomson's IMOCA 60 of the same name, recently third in the Vendee globe-After three unsuccessful attempts. Kinda places the word Determination in a new light don't it.
After contemplating Jesse's new position as the Top Guy responsible for the center piece of what might easily be a 10-15 Million Euro program, it occurs to me that he might also be the first US sailor to be so employed, at least on a non-US boat. Ooops, no this just in from the deeper recesses of the mind. Brian Harris presently operating a boat yard in Portland Me. worked for the French for a while...OK so Jesse is the second. Not bad for a young'n not yet 30....

It's been a lovely day today, very little wind, sunny and quite warm. It's going chilly now tho', not got heating on yet. May do later. Usual Saturday activities. Lie in, exercise by way of Salsacise and toning with weights. Collected Mummy and took her shopping. Sadly she was hard work today but we got through it. I didn't get round to putting a bet on the Grand National and I think my sweep horse was a non runner, oh well never mind. Fortunately, I didn't want much shopping so I could concentrate in hers. Is this the future. Then I was hanging out of one of the lounge windows to clean a mark off the outside of said window - Mummy lives in upstairs flat - I think I got it. Not won Lottery but not checked Euro Millions yet so I could be the sole winner of £21 million, who knows, would be nice. Watching a DVD called Blue Valentine, supposed to be the ultimate love story, I'm finding it very slow, I can't work out what is flash back and what is meant to be present day. Not much of a love story. Going off to look at other things now, nighty night xxxx
