Rail sorted for European Juggling Convention return. Get in quick if you're going and if you want the bargain Eurostar/TGV prices as they're far and few between and going fast. I'm looking forward to travelling first class from Toulouse to Paris, which was cheaper than second class! Now just to choose a ferry and which route to cycle down to Toulouse.

Hello dear friends! We have over 7K of you out there now and since we have been growing each day it would be nice to know where you are all from. So it would be great if you can introduce yourself briefly and tell us where you are from. I'd like to know you a little better. If you are a page owner, feel free to post a link in the comment so we can know you too and may perhaps get a visit from our friends here. I will begin in the comment.

A big well done is due to Mr Cameron and the rest of his idiot government with their cuts on airport security. 3 passport checkers and 2 security gates open at luton meant 20-30 minutes to get through each. Meanwhile in Geneva all passport & security aisles = 5 minutes at each. The sooner they fuck off the better!!

Finally have kinda figured out the plan, will have a second thought tomorrow, then decide -----
HK--> London (KLM one-stop but cheaper ), London <--> Edinburgh (package, direct fight VA + Apex City Hotel); London <--> dublin (package, direct flight BA + Croke Park Hotel), London --> Brussels (eurostar), separately book hotel but i find a real good one (maxhotel, a one star but super clean and in good location, i am too old for hostels), Brussels --> Berlin (package, direct flight Lufth + Park Inn by Radisson Berlin Alexanderplatz, waste the tix back to Brussels though), Berlin --> HK (KLM one-stop but cheaper).
hotels + tax + traffic (excluding local traffic) is around $24300 for 25 days...
the other alternative is to take train from brussels to berlin (ICE, 6-7hr) and separately book a cheaper 3 star hotel, but it only saves around $800 for 6 days, plus there is one connection... however, taking train save the energy and trouble traveling back and forth from the airports and the check in/out...
any comments folks?

So, I'm really considering trying to get to Europe with Nathan before my brother's flight benefits expire this fall (so, Eric, e-mail me on that when you have time), and would easily be able to get to Paris, where I'd like to sightsee for a day or two. I'd like to also visit England if I can manage it time-wise. (Megan Farr, Vicky Larmour, and any other UK-ers I'm missing, would a London meetup be feasible? I'd be on a limited time schedule. Though I would LOVE to make it to Scotland and Ireland someday if I can afford a few weeks in the British Isles.)
Finally, I would definitely go to Madrid to visit my aunt. I'd love to be able to squeeze Barcelona in, but doubt I'll be able to take enough time off work to make that feasible.
This would likely be in mid to late August.
So, my biggest question (in addition to the meetup with ANers) is whether folks recommend flying intra-Europe, or getting a Eurail pass. I could arrive at CDG, take a day in Paris, fly to LHR nonstop, spend a couple days there, fly nonstop to MAD, spend a week or more there, then fly back to CDG via LHR, then fly home again. That would be barely over $1,000 for both of us. Two Eurail passes would be over $800 (for super-saver first class. Can you even buy second class tickets for an adult, and how significant is the difference between 1st and 2nd?), so we're not talking about a huge difference. Flying mostly non-stop means more time IN each location for sightseeing, but taking the train is very appealing, too. Barcelona wouldn't be possible at all if I'm flying, but might be possible via train.
I guess I could also consider renting a car or some other method(s) of getting around, if you want to recommend them.
Recommendations? Locals want to meet?
