Turn Off the Silence Surrounding Child Sexual Abuse

Being afraid to talk and learn about the circumstances surrounding child sexual abuse and playing the "odds" game that it won't happen to your child has already proven disastrous for the children of this world.

Children never being told, never empowered to stand up for their own rights, never having the security of knowing they have people who know the threat is real and will believe them, to be reminded that Some Secrets Should Never Be Kept - instead of knowing it is right to tell, they carry heavy secrets and often suffer mentally and physically because of it.

Victims afraid of what people will think of them. What people will say about them. That people will fear they will turn into abusers. That they are "liars" or "dirty". Ask painful questions like "Why didn't you say no?" "Why didn't you just tell someone?"

Families being ashamed that they are now part of a very sad statistic and often further shaming victims by pressuring them to remain silent, to avoid putting "their shame" on the family name.

Mainstream media that skews the reality of child sexual abuse focusing on the "big scandals"- the Catholic Church, Boy Scouts, Jerry Sandusky, or people that randomly abduct young girls - rarely informing people that it's more often parents, grandparents, siblings, babysitters, neighborhood kids. So people have a false sense of security thinking that if they only allow family or people they "know" their children will be safe.

A society that is so ignorant, fearful, and in denial about child sexual abuse that prevention organizations struggle to gain funding because it really is quite easy to ignore victims when you don't know they exist.

So please, talk. Talk with the people you know. Talk with your doctor, your dentist, your hair dresser, your daycare provider. How can people care if they don't know? How will they know if we don't tell them?

Ok so Megghan S and I (Megan B) are both 8 weeks out from our competitions! She is going to be competing in Bikini and I will be competing in Figure. She is 100% doing the show and I am about 90% I am doing the show. Now is the time for us to really dial in on our diets, and cardio..ugh. I have to say my biggest struggle is not in the gym or cardio as much as in the kitchen. I keep telling myself it is only two months and I can do this. I really hope I can get it together and get back on stage for the first time since having my kids. This will be Megghan S's first Bikini and she is going to do awesome! We have both really been working hard to even get to this point. Now it is really game time!

“Well, I make kids work harder than they ever thought they could.
I make a C+ feel like the Order of Canada.
I make kids sit through 40 minutes of class time when their parents can’t make them sit for 5 without an I Pod, Game Cube or movie rental.
You want to know what I make? (She paused again and looked at each and every person at the table)
I make kids wonder.
I make them question.
I make them apologize and mean it.
I make them have respect and take responsibility for their actions.
I teach them to write and then I make them write.. Key boarding isn’t everything.
I make them read, read, read.
I make them show all their work in math. They use their God given brain, not the man-made calculator.
I make my students from other countries learn everything they need to know about English while preserving their unique cultural identity.
I make my classroom a place where all my students feel safe.
Finally, I make them understand that if they use the gifts they were given, work hard, and follow their hearts, they can succeed in life. (Bonnie paused one last time and then continued.)
Then, when people try to judge me by what I make, with me knowing money isn’t everything, I can hold my head up high and pay no attention because they are ignorant.U want to know what I make? I'm involved in creating a doctor an accountnt and every other profession I MAKE A DIFFERENCE. What do you make Mr. CEO?
