Confederate History Month
________________________________________
WHEREAS, April is the month in which the people of Virginia joined the Confederate States of America in a four year war between the states for independence that concluded at Appomattox Courthouse; and
WHEREAS, Virginia has long recognized her Confederate history, the numerous civil war battlefields that mark every region of the state, the leaders and individuals in the Army, Navy and at home who fought for their homes and communities and Commonwealth in a time very different than ours today; and
WHEREAS, it is important for all Virginians to reflect upon our Commonwealth’s shared history, to understand the sacrifices of the Confederate leaders, soldiers and citizens during the period of the Civil War, and to recognize how our history has led to our present; and
WHEREAS, it is important for all Virginians to understand that the institution of slavery led to this war and was an evil and inhumane practice that deprived people of their God-given inalienable rights and all Virginians are thankful for its permanent eradication from our borders, and the study of this time period should reflect upon and learn from this painful part of our history; and
WHEREAS, Confederate historical sites such as the White House of the Confederacy are open for people to visit in Richmond today; and
WHEREAS, all Virginians can appreciate the fact that when ultimately overwhelmed by the insurmountable numbers and resources of the Union Army, the surviving, imprisoned and injured Confederate soldiers gave their word and allegiance to the United States of America, and returned to their homes and families to rebuild their communities in peace, following the instruction of General Robert E. Lee of Virginia, who wrote that, “...all should unite in honest efforts to obliterate the effects of war and to restore the blessings of peace."; and
WHEREAS, this defining chapter in Virginia’s history should not be forgotten, but instead should be studied, understood and remembered by all Virginians, both in the context of the time in which it took place, but also in the context of the time in which we live, and this study and remembrance takes on particular importance as the Commonwealth prepares to welcome the nation and the world to visit Virginia for the Sesquicentennial Anniversary of the Civil War, a four-year period in which the exploration of our history can benefit all;
NOW, THEREFORE, I, Robert McDonnell, do hereby recognize April 2010 as CONFEDERATE HISTORY MONTH in our COMMONWEALTH OF VIRGINIA, and I call this observance to the attention of all our citizens.

Ok, have you guys ever heard of Dr.James Dobson? He is a Christian leader who stands for the protection of families in America. I just got a newsletter from him in the mail which covers his concern that Obama is doing things underhanded to lessen the shock and objection. "As a result, the judicial branch of government, which is least qualified to make policy for the military, likely would rule in favor of ACLU. Civilian girls-next door would have to register at age 18 or suffer penalties for not doing so. And during a future prolonged war, female draftees could be called to fight on the same basis as men. This would divide the nation instead of rallying Americans in a time of true emergency- a result that wold weaken our military deterrent and nation security."

Obama has no morals or values..proff ,the meaning of morals is rules of right behavior . I ask you has this man displayed this ,be honest or does his rules change to fit his needs ? The meaning of values is a principle or quality that is valuable or desirable. Has he done anything desirable for this Country ? Has he brought you or America any value or quality ? Please I want the America my Grandparents came for, the proudest and strongest Nation under God ! Obama nor Clinton can lead this Country in that direction!!!!!!

Okonjo-Iweala, govs, Utomi tie growth to youths

NIGERIAN youths have been advised on the importance of participation in the country’s political process if the economic transformation of the country is to be realised.

This call was made by a host of political leaders over the weekend, at the Ikogosi Warm Springs and Resort, Ikogosi-Ekiti, during the second edition of the Nigeria symposium for Young and Emerging Leaders, organised by The Future Project in partnership with Enough is Enough (EiE), under the theme: “Project 2015: The Character of Our Involvement,” which held for two days.

Coordinating Minister of the Economy and Minister for Finance, Dr. Ngozi Okonjo-Iweala, stated that the participation of the youth in the restructuring of the country is important because they are the most powerful agents of change in any society.

According to Okonjo-Iweala: “This formidable group called the Nigerian youth is more than twice the size of Ghana’s total population, yet their demographic, social, political and economic importance is often insufficiently acknowledged. And to make matters worse, the Nigerian youth also appears to have deviated widely from the roles associated with it, especially when one looks back at the remarkable contributions made by the young Zik or Africa, Tafawa Balewa, Shehu Shagari, Obafemi Awolowo and other young Nigerians at the time, towards our development as a nation.”

She acknowledged the potency of the youth of any country, citing how the single act of an individual, Mohamed Bouazizi, ignited the Arab Spring.

She described the youth as “engines of economic transformation, noting the impact of the youth in the development of the Asian Tigers.

Ekiti State Governor, Dr. Kayode Fayemi, who is also the host, emphasised the need for youths to be involved in partisan politics in order to contribute to the development of the country.

According to him, the youth should desist from “agonising” but “organise” their ideas in order to achieve the change they desired. He stressed that instead of complaining of bad leadership, the youth should look for ways they can make a difference in any way they could.

“People say politics is dirty but I do not see anything dirty about politics because I am not dirty and I know some politicians that are not dirty as well. I am not advocating everybody should be in politics but we need committed youth to contribute to good governance of Nigeria. When I engage young people I do so because they have a crucial role to play in transforming the country,” Fayemi said
