ANTI-CORRUPTION BUREAU ARRESTS FORMER
ROADS FOREMAN IN MWANZA
In 2009, the Anti-Corruption Bureau received
information alleging that
Francis Kasiyamaliro Roads Foreman at Mwanza
Public Works Office abused his
position by including names of people who
never worked on a road project in
order to receive the wages for his personal
advantage.
The Anti-Corruption Bureau instituted
investigations into the matter. It
established that Mr. Francis Kasiyamaliro hired
nine people to receive
money on his behalf for the public works project
in the rehabilitation of
the Kalanga - Mpandadzi and Tambo -
Chithumba roads in Mwanza District.
On 4th April, 2013, the Anti-Corruption Bureau
arrested Francis
Kasiyamaliro. He was taken to Mwanza
Magistrate’s Court. He was charged
with one count of misuse of public office
contrary to Section 25B (1) of
the Corrupt Practices Act and one count of
falsification of registers
contrary to Section 368 of the Penal Code.
He was released on bail on the following
conditions:
- Deposited with the court K20,000.00 cash
- Produced one reliable surety bonded at
K20,000.00 not cash
He pleaded not guilty to the charges. He will
appear in court on a date to
be set by the court.
