PORTLAND – Labor leaders, politicians and community leaders will join with workers at Wellness Connection of Maine in Portland this Saturday to demand a change in the business practices of Maine’s largest medical marijuana dispensary. Wellness Connection of Maine has ignored employee voices, attempted to silence whistleblowers, refused to recognize workers organizing for a say at work, and engaged in illegal and unsafe medical marijuana cultivation processes.

Workers had organized and demanded recognition for their membership in the United Food and Commercial Workers International Union (UFCW), the nation’s largest union for medical marijuana workers, but Wellness Connection of Maine has refused to recognize the workers’ right to stick together and bargain collectively.

Additionally, the Maine Department of Licensing and Regulatory services found more than 20 violations of state regulations in a month-long investigation of the company prompted by employee tips. Among the most serious of these violations was the unlawful use of nine pesticides in the growing operation. More than ten percent of the ground level workers have been out sick due to working conditions; some with lung infections from mold exposure in the warehouse, which the company has yet to provide protective equipment for.

Mary Hardin-Baylor men’s basketball team [27-5] will play for the Division III NCAA National Championship – The band, the cheerleaders, and 276 students will make the trip to Atlanta, Ga. [on 4 busses]. Forty students are on the bus waiting list, a few will fly, and a lot will drive their car with a full load of Crusader fans. A local movie theater will carry the game on one or more of the big screens.
The championship game will be Sunday April 7th at Philips Arena in Atlanta, Georgia. UMHB will play #2 Amherst College [29-2 [Lord Jeffs] from Amherst, Mass. The title game tips off at 11:30 AM Central Time (12:30 PM Eastern) and will be televised on CBS Sports Network [Direct TV #613 & Dish #158].

I was invited to a Continental Conference Call and Group Meditation
