Bob McCool and I will be celebrating our 35th wedding anniversary in May. We are going to do a weekend in Gettysburg, PA. Have not been since my grade school trip. I found family genealogy papers about a great-great uncle, Henry B. Happy, who died at Gettysburg while attending the 75th Anniversary of the battle at the age of 97. It was July, 1938. The invitation to attend was signed by President Roosevelt. A special train went around the country, picking up the old soldiers at various stops, taking them all to Gettysburg. He was the last surviving civil war veteran in Chippewa County, WI. The newspaper article states he wanted to go there and shake hands with every Confederate he met and that wanted to show he had nothing against the boys in gray. I have a picture of him, outside his tent(!) at this reunion. Cannot wait!

Mom texted me yesterday, they made it to Gettysburg PA around 6pm(ish). Said they have had bad roads all the way(imagine that)..Tonight they should be in Bristol TN and then on Sunday sometime they should be in Anderon SC....They will be there for around 8 days or so then they will be heading home.

You would think racism would not exist in 2013 but it still does. The boys and I went to a viewing yesterday in Gettysburg PA. My assistant pastor rode with us. We got half way there and stopped at a McDonald's. as we walked in every one stopped what they was doing and stared at us till we left. I felt so weird. I was so glad when we left. A WONDERFUL time with our daughter, Laurie, and her family this week-end. We had a mini family gathering at the Roosevelt Tavern, the classy restaurant she and her husband, Byron own and operate. Byron is the chef - an EXCELLENT chef and WONDERFUL son-in-law. My brother, Bill, his wife, Eileen, their daughter, Katie and husband, Zack, and their cute toddler Genevieve were present.

If you EVER are within driving distance of York, Pa. you really need to go their for a meal - lunch or supper. You will never regret it!

The Red White & Blue Unit trekked northward to Elmira, NY to start the Upper Mid-Atlantic portion of the tour. On the way, the team feasted on culinary delights from the Orient and the Caribbean. Landmarks passed along the way included Gettysburg, PA, an event stop from Ambassador past where Abraham Lincoln delivered his famous speech "fourscore" and many years ago; Lewisburg, PA, which features Bucknell University; and Harrisburg, PA, the capital of Pennsylvania. Harrisburg is where The Queen of Show Basketball Lade Majic considers to be one of the turning points in her illustrious professional career. A tryout with the Harrisburg Hammerheads of the defunct Continental Basketball Association was the impetus of her making the decision to make basketball her lifelong vocation. The Ambassadors are looking forward to meeting fans and bringing great family entertainment to Athens, PA Thursday at Athens Area High School (Tip-off 7pm local time). See you there!!!
