For those of you who haven't beating the game yet, the Bioshock: infinite ending is kinda like the ending of fight club. It changes how you view the whole game, and you kinda gotta play it again since you have a new understanding.

Playing through Bioshock again for the feels, and I have got to say that the whole dark city underwater thing with mutated criminals running around is freaking terrifying. Surround sound headphones don't help. I can hear them breathing. Ridiculous.

Bioshock Infinite Review
Exploring the Dystopia in the Sky
Few games are able to tell an engaging, complex story such as Irrational Game's Bioshock Infinite. Just like its predesesor, Infinite immerses the player from the start. You play the role of Booker Dewitt, as he is rowed to an ominous lighthouse towering above him amidst a storm. Booker is tasked with retrieving a girl named Elizabeth who is held in the floating city of Columbia, a place dominated by extreme American nationalism and racism. But these aspects are not entirely realised by Booker until he takes the time to explore its inner workings.
Upon arrival in Columbia you are struck with the absolute beauty of the city. The music is fantastic as well, and contributes perfectly to the tone throughout the game. The early 20th century architecture looks great along with the bright, vibrant colors of its setting. I found myself marveling at the dozens of sights Columbia offered, from its huge statues of the founding fathers to the citizens buying hot dogs from a street vendor. This game is truly one you want to explore every nook and cranny of, not only because of its sights, but because they reward the player with plenty of money used to purchase items like health and ammunition. The art design of Infinite is gorgeous from start to finish, and the varied environments always make it exciting to explore.
Bioshock offers the best music, story, and presentation video games have to offer, and although the gameplay is fun, it isn't the game's strongpoint. The first weapon the player is given is a skyhook, which is used for melee combat and a means of travel on the skylines that connect parts of the city. When attached, the player can ride the skyline's tracks like a rollercoaster, which can give you a vertical advantage over your foes in combat. It is fun to use, although it did feel too chaotic at times because it is hard to aim while using it. In fact, too chaotic is how I would describe some of the battles I had in Infinite. There is fun to be had while blasting enemies with my gun while being shot from every angle, but I found it annoying in certain situations. I didn't enjoy the battles where a ton of machine gun-toting toting enemies were thrown at me, because I found myself hiding behind cover waiting for my shield to regenerate most of the time. I feel that the combat would be improved if there was no shield and less ranged enemies were thrown at the player like the original Bioshock did. The combat shines, however, when you use your powers called Vigors. These Vigors give the player the ability to do things like summon vicious crows on enemies or absorb incoming bullets as a shield. Refills for your Vigor bar called Salts can be found as loot in the environment. It is a blast to strategize what Vigors to use on your enemies in tandem with your guns, which can be upgraded at the frequent vending machines throughout Columbia.
Not far into the game Booker finds Elizabeth, who contributes greatly to the combat. When low on health, Vigors, or ammo, Elizabeth will toss some to you. She also will help you out by opening things called 'tears', which will place helpful objects like cover or a turret for you.
Bioshocks unique storytelling about Columbia and the relationship between Booker and Elizabeth is one of the best I have ever experienced. Both the story and the exciting combat in the beautifully detailed city of Columbia combines to make one of the best games of this generation.
Score: 9.75
