Buried in yesterday's jobs report was the fact that only 85.3 percent of men aged 45 to 54 are now working. This is the lowest percentage of working men in that prime age group since 1948. It's 2 percent below the lowest level of their labor participation during the Great Recession. Why are so many of these men without jobs? Presumably, they lost them starting in 2008 and haven't been able to find new ones. Many have stopped looking altogether. So how are they getting by? Some got extended unemployment benefits, which are now running out. Others qualified for disability insurance. But it's undoubtedly also true that many men not in the workforce are now dependent on their wives' earnings. This marks a completion of a trend that began in the late 1970s, when male earnings first began stagnating or declining, and wives and mothers streamed into paid work in order to prop up family incomes. The two-income middle-class family represented the largest social revolution in modern American history. It gave women more economic independence, altered traditional parenting roles, and caused new stresses and adjustments in families. Now, in many cases, we're back to a single breadwinner -- but instead of it being the man it's the woman of the family. If the trend continues, what can we expect of the future? When will men become obsolete?

An educated population equals a strong, stable state, ready for the future. So the investment is well worth it. It's really as simple is that... Which is why I've been doing a lot of thinking lately.

If I may be so direct, just what the fuck are you Americans thinking? You make your own people go into often crippling debt, just to become educated, and just as they're trying to get started in life. You've unleashed 100s of expensive for-profit "schools" to prey upon your own citizens. You spend more on your prisons than on your students. And among the top 15 countries by military expenditures, you're number 1, and spend as much as the other 14 combined. Meanwhile, your rich own most of your politicians, and fool many citizens into fighting to keep it that way. It's all a recipe for a lost generation at best, and a nation hurtling toward decline and eventual unraveling at worst. When is enough going to be enough for you Americans?

Let me get this straight: North Korea is NOT going to bomb anyone, at anytime, for any reason. Who the hell has North Korea been attacking for the last 2 decades? No damned body. Regardless of how many times North Korea tests its missiles, it does not constitute an existential threat to the United States or its allies. Some anonymous source is telling us that another anonymous source heard from an anonymous source that an anonymous source in the government said something anonymously. Coincidence? Defense spending cuts. Not a coincidence.

It is quite possible that some anonymous source over hear told an anonymous source over there that South Korea was preparing an attack as might be America. It's called playing each other against each other. It got us into WW1 and WW2. But the United States has thousands of nuclear warheads and the means to deliver them with pinpoint accuracy. We have deterred other strange and ruthless regimes in the past, most notably the Soviet Union under Josef Stalin and China under Mao Tse-tung. Both countries had far more nuclear weapons and missiles than North Korea ever can hope to build.

We don't need another war. We must cut Defense spending. Defense spending is fraught with fraudulent billings against the Government. Better we take this money and provide for our veterans and their families as we promised to do and as is the right thing To Do! We need cool heads to prevail in Washington and the various East Asian capitals. North Korea is an annoying problem, but it is not an overwhelming threat.
